Iginla - Stay or Trade?

I want to see how the fanbase feels about this topic, especially after the tonight's game. We all love him and he has done his duties in Calgary, but personally I don't think we have a future with him, as much as we would with the return of a good trade.

And I am aware Feaster said Iginla is not going anywhere. This is a business, NOBODY is untouchable on our roster.

If you vote No, I am curious to hear your reasoning.

Move him if the return is good i.e 1st and 2 solid prospects or a top prospect.

It would definitely speed up the "healing" process for this team. I don't think Iginla carried this team this year as much as he did in the previous years. This year it was all Kipper and hot streaks of players like Glenx, Jokinen, Tanguay, heck even Baertschi...

Tough one. Trades are not easy to make. For us it is but not for NHL GMs.

I'd rather seem him stay with Baertschi coming in. Would be a good mentor.

Rick Nash and Zach Parise are wingers. Once they are signed/moved you have to see what teams are left who want a top winger.

There may not be a good enough package left for Iggy.

I think this is the last year we can get something reasonable for Iginla. For once we could relly make a good trade... similar to the one that brought Iggy to Calgary in the first place.

All depends on Iggy for me. If he wants to win, and move on, then yes. If he wants to stay, then he's done enough for this team that I'm okay with that.

No in a sentimental sense, yes would be the practical thing.

Fans expect too much from an almost 35 year old player.

The much bigger problem here is why fans and the organization expect to find success on the back of a single forward when no team has ever accomplished that before.

Trade him for his own sake, never mind the return.

I wish Iginla wasn't so classy. I wish he'd march into Feaster's office at the end of the season and say 'trade me.'

If he doesn't sign an extension on July 1st (or indicates prior that he's not interested) it could amount to the same thing.

how is this speculation? speculation would be "will Iginla be traded?"

and the simple answer is no he won't be. So why bother trying to trade him every summer and every deadline? he will be here until his contract expires.

more realistic speculation would be "when will Iginla sign an extension and what will the terms be?"

At this point, addition by subtraction. This is Iginla's team and nothing is going to change until Iginla is gone. The country club atmosphere is not going change until Iginla is gone. No one is going to assume a leadership role until Iginla is gone. The most important thing to this team moving on is a complete change in leadership and that starts with the captain. Whatever you can get for Iginla is good return because it is a sign the team is serious about wanting to make a change that points to a new future. With an aging and depreciating Iginla we are no better than Oiler fans, talking about the great past, that actually wasn't so great to begin with.

On topic, I'll say what I told Tom Bro. I view moving Iginla as a last resort type of move. I am having trouble distinguishing whether it's Iginla playing badly because of his supporting caste, or if the supporting caste is playing badly because of Iginla. The sooner that is figured out, the sooner a judgement call can be made.

This offseason will go a long way to determining the kind of team Feaster wants us to be. But I don't think trading Iginla is exactly the way to go... not yet, anyways. I'd remove the C from his sweater before I sent him packing.

Why? I also cheer for them and its not like the Flames have done enough for me to keep the old one.

Historically, this team has done poorly trading away talent (hell, even Niewendyk was almost traded for Todd Harvey, but the Flames "settled" for Iginla). Based on this trend alone, keeping Iginla makes the most sense.

If "the right package" is an overpayment by some team which also takes Iginla's intrinsic value to the City and the Organization into account, then I'd be okay with trading him. (by that, I mean we need to seriously pillage someone in the trade, for a change) Since that "right package" probably won't come around, I voted no.

Trade everyone. Iginla, Kiprusoff, Jokinen (UFA), Bouwmeester , Tanguay, Stajan. Start over.

You won't get much for a 35 yo declining player. Might as well keep him and let him retire as a proud Flame.

Iggy can't be traded without his consent.

He may simply stay for one more year and then decide if he wants to stay or go.

It's his choice.

I think if we traded him to a contender they can send back a good young roster player + pick. This has more value to us, especially in 2-3 years.

Hate to say it but I hope he gets traded. It just has to happen so the Flames can truly turn the page and correctly start a retool/rebuild imo

If Iginla's traded, it's going to be for **** just like Hossa and Kovalchuk. But everyone will be happy because there will plenty of picks, even when they do eventually lead no where.

If you look at past veteran players helping legitimate Stanley Cup contenders you would change your mind. Look at Bill Guerin and Mark Recchi. Guerin was picked up at the trade deadline and was a huge part in the Pens winning the cup a few years ago. Mark Recchi was also an essential leadership piece for the Bruins and led them to winning a cup as well. Iginla could be a big asset to a contending team looking for some crucial leadership.
