Mitchell

I can not stand this guy..he is an AHL'er..Torts is obsessed with the guy...

What I would give to have Avery in his spot. This guys sucks. last few weeks all im see'ing is how he is hurting more than helping.

maybe its just me,but there has to be a better replacement.

THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!!!!!!!!

Just a cheap line up plug till one of our highly touted prospects makes the jump next season.

Just gotta weather the storm for now. No biggie, he ain't the worst thing to wear a blueshirt.

I was a big Avery supporter but I finally came to the realization that his team has passed. Talent wise he is much better than Mitchell but Torts seems to be pushing the right buttons this year. Mitchell has played decent at times and is a typical 12th forward.

Last night, he was along the boards. Had Staal wide open with a clear shooting lane. Instead, he holds onto the puck for an hour, and only passes it to Staal once the Winnipeg winger already covered him. Just one example of his stupidity with the puck.

I'm as big an avery fan as there is, but that ship has sailed.

This team WITH Johnny Malkin has 49 wins.

There's no arguing that fact.

I think I'd prefer to have Newbury or Yogan before Avery at this point.

Mitchell is more reliable than Avery defensively and in the neutral zone, and doesn't turn the puck over as much in the offensive zone as Avery.

He's an offensive black hole but *most* of the time he can at least control the puck and cycle it well without dangerous turnovers

When Tortorella tried to put him on the top two lines, however, it was ugly

It could be worse. Based on what I've read on the Toronto boards, he likes to dangle against with 4 defenders in front of him. So far, I haven't seen any of that.

I usually give players the benefit of the doubt but he's after doing this enough here and there over the last few games and it's now drove me bonkers. I actually yelled at the TV last night on that exact play.

People can hate Avery all they want, he would have made that pass. Along with 95% of other NHL players.

Not sure if people got a short memory either but Avery was really strong down low and on the half boards in the offensive zone. But I admit defensively Mitchell is better.

As much as I liked Avery on the team I'm not clamoring to get him back at the expense of Mitchell - but Torts really needs to sit him down and replay the tape over and over of missed play to Staal last night and recently the missed play to a pinching Del Zotto. There's been a couple others too. All in the last stretch of games.

That's pretty much what he did in the instance that Henriks Broadway Hat is referring to. He had Staal wide open at the point and was trying to stickhandle around like 3 guys along the boards.

He's like Nylander, except after the 5th spin in the offensive zone he just shoots wide or turns it over, not pass to Jagr

News flash ...Sean Avery will never play for the Rangers ever again. It's like the sopranos ...it's over time to find a new show.

Torts loves Mitchell because in the defensive and neutral zones...he plays a solid NHL game. As soon as the guy gets into the offensive zone, though, he loses any vision whatsoever. It looks like he panics into forcing plays which often lead to everything coming the other way.

Rupp plays a very similar game, albeit a bit slower, but when you watch him in the offensive zone - he doesn't force anything. He knows his offensive limitations and tries to hold the puck against the boards instead of trying to make a play that he isn't capable of making.

Dah. He's doing what can be expected for <1million/year on 4th line. Other players underperformances on this team bothers me more.

Oh how quickly we forget, Mitchell played some good hockey for us when he was called up, I thought he was solid his first couple of weeks with the team, but his game gone south , IMO I think he has got some potential , at this point I trust Torts and whatever decision he makes

No problem with Mitchell, with exception to the Buffalo game (which was a little bad luck mixed in), I feel like he's been solid and not liability that most of the people thought he was going to be. But for the most part, I really don't expect him seeing much ice time in the playoffs. And by some miracle Zuccs makes it back for the playoffs, Mitchell will probably find himself as the odd man out as Torts will probably go with his man Fedotenko.

I can live with him if he's just there and doesn't contribute much, but his overhandling of the puck often leads to turnovers and there's no reason for a 4th liner to be putting himself in a position where it's easier for him to lose the puck. Turnovers killed us in the playoffs last year so he has to be a lot more careful with the puck and not hold on to it so long. It shouldn't be such a difficult thing for him to do but this is clearly something that has plagued "Johnny Malkin" throughout his career.

Mitchell could be a very good third liner with his size and skill.

He's not, though.

Hope he's not on the roster next season. Let him do radio commentary whenever Kenny Albert can't though, he has a golden voice.

If he played within his skillset, he'd be a very good player.

The problem is, he thinks that he's Jaromir Jagr out there.

Mitchell is a joke offensively and not because he's not the most talented player the world, it's because he plays like an assclown with the puck.

Dumbass needs to pass the puck instead of thinking that he's Gretzky and can stickhandle through 5 guys before passing.

Agree he can contribute, positively, noticeably and certainly.
Wouldn't say "very good" just yet.
Is willing to do dirty work in corners which has me overlook to partial degree some of the justified criticism, although I'd keep that in perspective.

Does he screw up constantly?
Or just have this Gretzky fantasy once in a while every 5th or 6th game?
