I was meaning at an NHL level, example look last year the hype was on Stephane Da Costa, but in my opinion Matt Read is already better than him on the NHL level.

Damn Im good. I wasnt as pumped as you guys were to get him, so thats why I dont feel as bad. I like Connolly better anyway. Hope we are going for him. (Obviously Schultz should be #1 if he makes to it FA)

He also went to Minnesota's as well.

We all wanted him and now that he signed with another team, we don't care. Love this fan base. He seems like a really good player, and we missed out on a good asset here I feel.

Lol, Im not lieing, go to my 2nd or 3rd page. He could be a good player, or he could turn out like Wellman and Da Costa did.

It's not meant to anyone specific. Just the first three or four pages was our fan base touting this kid up. We all wanted him with the exception of a few. Now he signs with another team, it's no big deal.

Outside Justin Schultz who is already know by everyone, is there is any dark horse on the defense that has the chance to become a top 4 d-man in the NHL? Any good player hidden somewhere in the NCAA or CHL?

Since Brown and Flynn are gone, please get Schultz, Homer.

Not really. Nate Schmidt is an interesting player. Didnt play much at all his freshman year but this past season he was said to be one of the best puck moving college d-men. Big bomb from the point and a good skater. The only problem would be is that he had one season. Also there is a chance he wants to go back for 1 more year.

Honestly, for every Matt Read there's 20 Randy Jones. We didn't get him, but that's okay. Let's go get the next guy and not stress about what'll happen with him in Tampa Bay.

Well that's the breaks of the game. Would of loved to have him but we can't sign everyone. Good player, he will definitely get his chance in tampa

Justin Schultz
Andrej Sustr
J.Welch

Two right hand shot d-men would be awesome and a big body forward. We have enough small players.

Oh forgot about Sustr. Would definitely get him up there as a main defender I want. 6'8, defender who can actually move. I jsut would like to see Andrej The Giant and The Great Dane on the same pairing(in the AHL, unless he somehow makes the team next year).

Brown going to Tampa definitely came down to playing time. He gets to play immediately and in an impact role there. I can't say I blame him either. If he stayed here, there's no guarantee that he would get a top 9 role next year.

Positive thought: last year all you heard about was that the flyers and the rest of the nhl were after DaCosta. There were no articles about the pursuit of Matt Read. This year you saw multiple references to the flyers interest in Brown as well as other teams Who could be this year unheralded signing? Sometimes he might just be the better signing.

The year before that it was Testwuide, not Holmstrom.

Don't really care about brown. He's no Matt read and we have enough forward depth right now, and enough small bodied forwards both on our team and in the system.

We need defenseman. I would much rather sign Schultz than a guy like brown.

Sustr would be cool too.

would of been nice to have Brown for depth, but otherwise i wont lose sleep over it. he wanted to go where he was going to get playing time. Dont blame him for not wanting to play on the 4th line with Rinaldo or Shelley or down on the farm with superstar Jason Akeson.
Didnt want Abbott. Dont think he will be much more then a nice depth forward.
Some Leaf fan think hes a 80 point player in the NHL.

The 4th line would be Couturier/Talbot and Wellwood.

I think he's been good for the phantoms. he's been hot and cold all year but for a guy on the small side in his first pro season, 49 pts in 68 games ain't that bad. he's a little bit prone to turnovers but there is plenty of time to work on that stuff.

Well according to DNFlyers, we are still looking at a few FA's. Brown was the big gun they were going for, but we couldnt offer him a spot on the team this season.

Shelley or Rinaldo ahave been in the lineup just about every game. I was just making a point anyway, Brown probably wants more then 4th line minutes right away.

meh we will see. hes put up some ok numbers at the AHL level so far, Kinda reminds me of Justin Acevedo. Both players are weak defensively, and have things to work on. Dont want to derail the thread tho. So I will just stop it right here.

Of course we couldn't. We couldn't promise him a spot next year either or even the year after that.

It was a nice sentiment that we tried our best, but if I was a college FA, it would be a battle of organizational proven development (PHI) vs. NHL playing time (TBL).

I don't know which I'd choose personally, but it'd certainly be a significant discussion considering it's the freaking NHL, every kid's dream. If you get in the game, who cares who it's with.
