Not sure how Pierre Lacroix leaving would leave the Avs organization. He has a good relationship with ownership. Plus, who would be puppet master?
Sakic is being groomed for the role of President, but he is 3-5 years away IMO. I don't think we will ever see Sakic take the GM seat, but he will have an obvious say in the operations of the GM.
If this ever happened it would be interesting to see what transpires in Denver. Pierre Lacroix, for better and worse, has been the Avs franchise from Day 1.
What we heard arround here is that Patrick Roy is the next Habs coach . Nothing is set in stone, those are still just rumours, but some say it's 90% done. As for the GM they are very high on Julien Brisebois http://lightning.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=50495 ( co-GM with Tampa , he grew up in the Habs family ).
Edit : take not that this is a move to Steal Roy From Québec , b4 it's to late

Curious, why 3-5 years? I honestly don't know how active Sakic has been with the front office.

He has taken an active front office role the past 2 seasons. He is currently the Executive Adviser and Alternate Governor. Which means he is learning the business side of hockey from a distance. My 3-5 year statement was based off of the idea that Pierre Lacroix could possibly be leaving (pure speculation). I just think that would put Sakic in a bad spot. He is no doubt the next guy in line for the job, but he still needs to gain experience.
