I thought a thread discussing the upcoming free agents as of July 1st would be worth while... maybe at least haha.
According to Cap Geek the following players are UFA / RFA. Who would you keep and for what cost?) My ideas are in parenthesis.
Olli Jokinen- UFA (Re-sign for same amount)
Lee Stempniak- UFA (Re-sign for the same amount roughly)
David Moss- UFA (I say let him play the field. He is replaceable imo)
Tom Kostopolous- UFA (If he is cheap then yeah keep him for a year)
Corey Sarich- UFA (I dig Sarich but I think the end of the line with the Flames is here)
Scott Hannan- UFA (He comes across as slow... let him walk, keep the youth movement)
Ratis Ivanans- UFA (just go haha)
Blake Comeau- RFA (re-sign)
Mikael Backlund- RFA (re-sign)
Blair Jones- RFA (re-sign)
Leland Irving- RFA (re-sign)
Paul Byron- RFA (re-sign)
Stefan Meyer- RFA (re-sign)
Jokinen - Will be getting a raise (4-5 M) keep.
Stemp - Resign
Moss - If signs for cheap then keep, otherwise walk
Kosto - Walk, give his spot to a young guy.
Sarich - Walk.
Hannan - Resign if cheap.

Resign all RFA's except Meyer, don't see the upside in him.

Mikael Backlund - re-sign for around $1.3M (what he's making now); don't give him more than 3 yrs, deal him if he doesn't get any better in the next year
Paul Byron - re-sign for league minimum
Blake Comeau - let him walk
Scott Hannan - let him walk
Leland Irving - re-sign; not sure what it would take to get him to stay, though; definitely have to move Karlsson
Raitis Ivanans - let him walk
Olli Jokinen - re-sign for $3-4M; if he's looking for a $4M+ pay day let him walk

Tom Kostopolous - re-sign for around what he's making now

Jokinen- re-sign, only for a reasonable dollar figure and term. if he gets greedy, i'd let him walk.
Stemp-re-sign, i like him even though he's streaky and has had a bit of limited role this year.
Moss-let him go, i know he scored 20 once, but i've always thought he was god awful other than his work ethic and he's easily replaceable.
TKO-let go. great guy in the room, but we need room for guys coming up.
Sarich-let go. warrior for the last few years, but time's up.
Hannan-undecided. d depth is a valuable commodity, but i'd be more inclined to let a younger guy take his spot.
Comeau-kind of indifferent. i think there's justification for re upping him, but he's had a hell of time this last year putting the puck in the net, so i wouldn't be surprised to not see him back.

I would like to see a third scoring line of Baerstchi - Backlund - Stempniak/Moss/UFA (whichever is cheaper), while our checking line is prospect - Jones - Comeau.
An young bottom six should gradually replace our top six.

Whoever doesn't perform being a senior on the team then throw on third and let the kids take top minutes....just a thought
This lineup is going to be just like this year. Minus the fact that Iginla will have less goals while Baertschi will score some goals. Stajan-Backlund-Jones-Lottery Pick that's a solid lineup of C's
Olli Jokinen - would consider an extension for the same cap hit as he has now, with a limited NTC / NMC.
Lee Stempniak - Would consider re-signing for around $2 million.
David Moss - Done, injured far too often.
Tom Kostopolous - Done, can be replaced at a lower salary.
Corey Sarich - Done, I would like him to re-sign at a discount, but doubt he wants to stay after he's been treated.
Scott Hannan - keep if nobody better comes along.
Ratis Ivanans / P3L / Desbiens - Done, can't leave fast enough.
Blake Comeau - Done, won't be qualified at $2.5 million. Consider signing at around $1 million if nobody else picks him up.
Mikael Backlund - Sign. Two years, $787,500 - his current salary without bonuses.
Blair Jones - Sign. Two years, $575,000 per. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who likes Jones but he's a decent 4th line guy.
Leland Irving - Sign. Two years, $650,000 per. It's a one way deal, so he gets a significant raise.
Paul Byron - qualifying offer of $605,000. If he doesn't take it, let him walk.
Stefan Meyer - isn't he in Europe now?
