Why was P.A. Parenteau discarded with such ease?

It's pretty simple. Didn't fit with team. Found success elsewhere. He wouldn't be having these seasons even on the Rangers top line. This is coming from someone who loved watching PAP play in Hartford.

Its pretty much all been touched upon here:

1. The Islanders have zero comittment to team defense, which works out great for PAP

2. The Islanders lone bright spot is John Tavares, who happens to play with PAP

3. Perhaps most importantly, his team is horrendous while the Rangers are not (see #1).

Moulson, Okposo, and Nielsen are hardly guys to look down your nose at.

A terrible team? Dude look at our PP for most of the year... it's been disgusting.
Those factors don't "change" the fact but they certainly explain it. He wasn't very good during his time here and two of the most important players on NYR play his position. Would you want Gaborik or Callahan to lose minutes for PAP? I sure wouldn't - they're both vastly superior players.

I do the exact same thing. It's simple, really. He's one-dimensional and a tool.

The Rangers are the best team in hockey.

some of these responses are insane... I'm kinda surprised. There is obviously some bitterness with our fan base.

To say he cost us the playoffs is laughable. Sure, he needed to work out a lot of details in his game, but so did half of our current team.

It's called coaching.

Gaborik wasn't a "Torts kind of player" either. It's about buying into the system, and I believe has is/was capable of doing just that.

Moulson also plays with Tavares.

Okposo and Nielsen? Seriously?

Gaborik played for Lemaire for many years. Defensive responsibility wasn't a new concept to him. You can call it coaching, but no matter how good the coach, they aren't going to be able to reach every player. Do you honestly believe that Jack Capuano is a better coach than Torts?

I like PAP. I think he's a good kid and I would have liked it if things had worked out for him here. He got more playing time with us than he ever had before. But there is no way he would have ever had the same success for us as he's had with the islanders.

PAP alone? It's not like the PK was completely faultless. Or the fact that our only goal that game was from Jody 'freakin' Shelley? That statement holds as much water as "Olli Jokinen cost us the playoffs" Heck PAP was the only Ranger to score in that shootout.

Richards would have 80 points on PAP's line.

Rangers had a 1-0 lead. Flyers couldnt beat Henrik at ES. He took a lazy penalty in the 3rd period. The Flyers scored because of him.

If his parents had other plans aside from conception, the Rangers make the playoffs in 2010

One player never costs a team the playoffs. Fans like to think that, because they need a scapegoat, but it is not true.

I agree, we could've just scored more than once that day and not had a problem. That being said, I still don't like PAP.

Yep. Good call.

Anyway with Gaborik and Callahan where would he fit? 3rd liner on Torts team?--undersized and not very good defensively, doesn't pk--don't think so.

who is to say he is not the next St.Louis...St.Louis was not exactly a star in Calgary til he was moved.... Whos to say that the isles werent the one to actually jump start his offense and show his skill..,maybe he needed a real opportunity.

I dont care who you play with in the NHL,you are still doing something right to get 65 points...While MM and JT are good they are not Malkin and Neal.Point is he is doing his part, obvioulsey.I am taking no credit away from tavares, the kid is going to be a star no doubt,MM is good also.

Do i agree in a sense also with what most of you said, yes,in a sense..but until this kid goes elsewhere,we will never know.

Do I think a team is going to offer him 6 mill as a UFA,**** NO!!!!!!!!!!! Do i think he will get about 3.5,very possible...is 2.8-3.1 realisitc at a 2 year deal,yes....Where I have no fkn idea what team would even pursue him..Maybe FLA?
