Savard is not the GM... he is merely heading the committee to search for a new GM.
Larry Carriere is going to handle any GM duties that might need to be done for the end of the season (callups, co-ordinating the travel schedule of the scouts to get ready for the draft, etc...) Hopefully he'll even get the OK to sign Kristo.
Smell like the press conference would be to leave him alone until the Ramparts are eliminated. It is becoming a distraction to him right now and the focus need to be on his team for the time being...
So he will say "Stop bothering me until Ramps are out", and it will make sense.

Sounds like it ,could be a done deal with Habs ,but he's goona say leave me alone until end of jr season ..

Roy would like nevertheless to have the head with 100% with the Ramparts, for the duration of their eliminatory series. I think that in the next weeks, there will be many speculations. [...] Me, I do not want to really embark in the speculations. Because I am at present occupied with a club junior. Personally, I n' do not have the taste d' to have distractions. J' have rather the taste to concentrate to help my team to go further possible and d' to eliminate these distractions.
If it had anything to do with the Habs, the Habs would be holding a press conference, not Roy.
Well, he needs to quit his current position before they announce they hired him. No? The other way around would be ackward.
In any case, it's more likely to dispel any rumours and eliminate the distractions to his current team. If he wasn't in the playoffs, then I would believe it had something to do with the Habs but it's not the case.
Savard said he had not been hired as a GM and is not officially part of the organisation, he is just there as a 'conseillé spécial'.
As for Roy, as much as I'd like it to happen, never forget it's the GM who hires the coach. Savard even said in an interview to LCN that he would not interfere between the choice of the new coach, as he himself wouldn't have liked someone to take decisions in his place when he was GM.
Now I'm not saying that the coach won't be Patrick Roy anyways, because he seems like the most viable option out there, but don't hold your breath for him announcing anything is signed at this presser.
And if really, he announces he's the new head coach, well then, that means the GM is already decided, even though not publicly announced.
I don't want Brisebois as GM, it's not because of you have been a mediocre defenseman in the NHL and you race cars that you can suddenly become the manager of a pro franchise.
