I love how one minute everyone is praising a certain player and then the next it's "to the dungeon with you". Only the fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The bandwagoneers of the sports world. I hate to admit it that I am a Leafs fan when I see posters like that.

You aren't going to discover what you have in Scrivens and Rynnas with 5 games left in the season. No need to traumatize them by taking them away from a strong Marlies roster and putting them behind an average team with zero confidence who is now playing like **** and has been for almost 2 months now.
Start Gus every game and when he lets in 3-4 goals a game, then put your back-up in. Back-up gets the NHL time but the loss isn't going to be on his shoulders. I don't cheer for the team to lose and I still cheer for them on the rare occasions that they manage to score goals so it's not like I'm rooting for a tank here but I see the value in allowing Gus to simply ride out the rest of his season. If nothing else, he has a very good chance of helping us get a top draft pick before his inevitable exit - or so it seems.

I want to watch this, but lately our games have been so utterly depressing that I just can't. I'd much rather just enjoy the tank feeling after the game and not have to watch this gang of talentless, heartless losers pretend to play a defensive style of hockey while getting outshot 45-15.

What does their NHL salary have to do with anything? I'm not talking about keeping both down with the Marlies and leave Gus all by himself with no back-up. I was responding to the comment that either Scrivens or Rynnas should get the starts from here on out. I think we might as well go with Gus for the remainder of games. Scrives/Rynnas still get their NHL salary whether they're sitting on the bench or starting in net.
At this point I envision Joe Bowen going Harry Doyle (Bob Uecker) in the press box a la Major League. Downing bottles of jack and saying "oh what's that point anymore?". Something like this:
2006-07 Curtis Joseph went 18-31-2 with Phoenix, and 2008-09 Curtis Joseph played 21 games going 5-9-1 for us, now that must instantly make him the one of the worst goalies to play the game ever with your logic, right? I hope if Burke doesn't re-sign him that he goes to a team where he has a stellar season and he shuts us out every meeting just to prove a point to posters like you.
Gus is coming back whether you like it or not. Burke said repeatedly after January that Gus saved the season after Reimer went down. I would think that is a vote of approval from management. Burke is going to experiment again with an unexperienced goalie tandem, without having them first play behind a veteran.
I can't wait for these last 5 games to be over. We honestly have no chance against Philly tonight without icing a complete healthy team. Plus Philly is playing for something. We don't need to play for what we are going for.

Andy Frost is increasingly becoming this way on Leaftalk each and every evening.
Before he'd stand up for the team, ownership, coaching, while now, he's ripping into them quite often. The best part is, he actually sounds and acts like he's having the most fun he's had in a long long while doing the show.
I do wonder if it's partly because LeafTalk may not be on the air next season, since AM640 is losing the broadcast rights to the FAN/TSN next season. Still think Andy Frost plans on remaining as PA announcer with the Leafs, and therefore, he is a paid employee of MLSE.
I can't possibly believe Gus would be starting after that last performance. He should never see another NHL net again. Anyone left defending him is absolutely clueless.
Are you new here? Gus hasn't been all that good from day one. The only difference now is that the excuses have dried up.
Gus has to play tonight. Let him give up a few goals, then put in Rynnas/Scrivens. Just like last game.
We surely do not want Rynnas/Scrivens playing the whole game.
Exactly what I was just thinking.
Let him serve as the team's top tank commander for the remainder of the season and then let him walk on July 1st. There's no point in risking the mental health of either Rynnas or Scrivens when both of them can still help the Marlies with their play-off aspirations.
I also think that a couple posters on the first page are being just a tad harsh. Granted, Gustavsson has had some pretty ****** performances this season, but he has also had some pretty good performances as well. His probelms this season were clearly a lack of consistency combined with being repeatedly hung out to dry by the rest of the team far too often. It wouldn't surprise me if Gustavsson's head had been messed with by Allaire just as badly as Reimer's head has been messed with. That alone could easily screw up any relatively young and inexperienced goaltender.
Don't get me wrong here; I DON'T want Gustavsson re-signed. I'm merely saying that he's not even close to being "****ing putrid", as a previous poster has claimed.
