Already been discussed the PGT but I do think it deserves its own thread.

I can't believe some posters said the reporter was out of line. The reporter has my respect for asking these questions and making players accountable directly. They're getting too comfortable thinking this country club atmosphere will remain but I love how the fans are acting like they've had enough.

If you wont play to your capabilities, we'll make sure we run you out of town.

Right?

People often gave Howard Berger a hard time for being a ***** (which undoubtedly he was most of the time), but what I appreciated about him was that he always seemed to be the fan in the room; he always seemed to ask the questions that the fans needed answered.

Right now, we want answers.

1 - What happened?

2 - Why did this thing fall apart?

3 - What's the leadership in the room like?

At least ONE guy has gone in there to try and ask the questions that journalists SHOULD be asking

i think new threads should be allowed to stay as their own thread till dropped down to the bottom of the list then grandfather over to an associated thread.

Journalism at it's worst? Other than the Gus question he was completely in line with what he had to say. Luke could've at least said we apologize or some other bs, and Phaneuf comes off like a giant moron in that video.

Sure, but they're grilling the wrong people.

I mean Gardiner, really? What's he done this year besides play better than could have been expected?

Schenn? He's been up and down, still young though.

Gustavsson? Geez, that guy's been through the ringer mentally since before he even came to Toronto.

Phaneuf and Kessel, sure, but how about Connolly or Armstrong or Komisarek? They're noticeably absent in these interviews; our "veterans".

The guy should have just tried to force his way into Burke's office if he wanted to get to the heart of things, instead of just try and humiliate the players further and drive what little talent we have out of this city.

You can view it like that if you like.

I'm not going to deny that it's a very convenient time to be asking those types of questions to the players.

However, no one can argue that it's the type of questions that need to be asked.

Players need to be held accountable and responsible. While losing sucks, I think most fans can accept losing the way we did after January 1st of last season - most nights we were going down with a fighting attitude. This season, it's been a no-show. The players don't deserve to be coddled and padded on the back by the media if they aren't going to deliver to the fans.

AND FINALLY SOMEONE asks the players about the fans. The $450 nuggets who sit and go through that.

There is one bright side. Looks like the team has finally found a way to make Burke shut up.

Schenn has that default good guy personality, dig a little deeper and you can see how little he cares. He just puts the cliches out there way too easily, looks like such an earnest team guy and then sucks night after night while enjoying his pay raise.

Players are accountable to each other, the coaches, management and the league.

Our fans feel some sort of entitlement that the players are accountable to us. To that I say "Whatever". Fans have the right to boo the team they cheer for, to send a message about the performance of the team. But it ends there.

How would you like it if a customer of the firm you work at came in and started grilling you about your performance and blaming you for everyone else's failures? Or asking a question along the lines of: "How does it feel knowing you're going to be fired in two months?" It's not their place.

People forget that these guys are human. They go home to their families after having to deal with that sort of crap from the media. And you may say "boohoo, they're millionaires, they signed up for this." Wrong. Nobody deserves mistreatment.

This type of over-emotional reporting is too Nancy Grace-esque for my liking. It's sloppy and it's rubbish. People may get some sort of vicarious satisfaction from it but it's shoddy work, embarrassing and reeks of a reporter trying to get recognition.

Disappointed that Schenn couldn't even muster an apology for the people that come out and pay his salary.

I thought the questions were warranted with the way they've played. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with the way we've tanked. I am not happy with the lack of effort. It's embarrassing that some of these guys even have the opportunity to suit up as a Maple Leaf, but to go out and not throw everything on the line is just pathetic.

i agree. why is stuff like this merged? new info gets lost this way.

I happened to be on when it was posted as its own thread, if I came 20 minutes later (now), I probably would never see the video.

and of all things to merge it with ""post game talk"???? It was before the game, and it was sort of a commentary on the entire year by ctv.

does the mod responsible care to explain?.. only looking to make this place better.

Ya we're patient enough for rebuild, sure.

Burke is right. We should hurry it up and trade the pick+ for Nash.

I thought we were all excited for the tank. Instead people are happy to see 21-22 year olds squirm under pointless questions like "what do you say to the fans that paid $450?"

Talk about kicking a guy when he's down. Awesome bully reporting.

WTF is the point of that question. If I were a leaf I wouldn't do interviews at all right now.
