I think there might be a little bit of a language barrier between NYR88 and the rest of you. Cut him some slack, I enjoy hearing both sides and you guys are just trying to make him feel like an idiot.
There's no language barrier. He is saying some nutty stuff that would sound just as nutty in German (believe me, I live in Austria and know plenty of people who think burning incense and eating "bio" products will keep them alive longer than the pharmaceutical industry will. And then when they really become ill they have to take the same drugs everyone else does.
Point taken though, there's no need to be an a-hole when making your argument - I often forget that!
As a geneticist myself, I see no problem with genetically modified food. The stigma against it in public circles is almost laughable. I understand that the general public is made up of people who are mostly ignorant of genetics, but everything you eat today has some engineering done to it. Selection of traits is in itself a rudimentary level of engineering and has been done for centuries. I can't really understand how some of you are thinking, it's okay to cross breed corn "naturally" to increase yield, but if I do it with a pipette it's all of a sudden bad? It's kind of funny that some of you are scared of the long term effects when you've been eating this GM food since you were children.
