He hasn't been signed to a good value contract since he hit unrestricted free agency, don't see any reason why he would start now.

I know, but I don't like him one bit, he makes Mike Green look like Adam Foote with his soft play. Someone will overpay for him and regert it afterwards, I just hope it won't be our new GM.

We have Markov, Subban, Kaberle, and Diaz.

We need a stay at home D, not a game breaker

Someone Physical

Barrett Jackman
Bryan Allen
Nic Grossmann
Milan Jurcina
Johnny Oduya
Aaron Rome
Shane OBrien

Would be my targets (put them in order too)

I think he is a guy that you sign for 2-3 years at around 6 mil(Rather than 5 years at 5 mil) to minimize the risk.

I think possibly adding a guy like Pahlsson or Gaustad(though he will probably be overpriced)could be good, to take some defensive responsibility off Plekanec(which in turn will help score more goals).

On defense I think we need a better mix of offense and stay at home guys. I think a guy like Grossman for 4 years at 3.5-3.8/year would be a solid addition. Jackman Allen and a few others fit in this mold. Better to pay a bit more for a guy that can play 20-22 minutes vs a 16-18 minute guy like O'brien or Hannan.

Those moves can pretty easily be done by waiving Gomez or trading him if we can find a partner.
Semin is nowhere close to as talented as Ray Whitney.

So if Wideman showed interest in Montreal you'd just hang up?

That's ridiculous. If you are worried about that, you find a way to make him fit and sign a stay-at-home guy afterwards.

Maybe I just see the wrong games then because I'd never have classified Wideman as soft.

this new HABS GM might make some BOLD MOVES."shockin trades".....players you see now might be gone ...
Just remember what is in place right now is PG and BG inc ..

A new GM likely wants to put his own stamp on it ...

Penner would be ideal, I think.

Big forward, which the team still needs given its top two centres. He's also a solid contributor, and would be very nice in a secondary or tertiary scoring role. He can skate, too.

Given his miserable season, I suspect he'd be cheaper than he should be. Nice reclamation project.

Montreal needs scoring forwards now that Cammalleri and Kostitsyn are gone. There's not much youth that'll be taking up those spots, so a reclamation project like Penner seems ideal.

Cases can be made for both of them, but Wizard lacks Semin's baggage wich makes him a great short term solution for any SC contending team.

I wanted O'Brien last summer, still think he'd be a good addition.

Anything under 7mil is value for a player who produces as much as Semin.

Semin has had seasons of 38, 34 and 40 goals, Whitney is a smart little player but nowhere near as skilled.

We don't need a 5'8" 40 year old.

Wideman is coming off a career year and will cost a fortune(see Wisniewski) and he isn'ty the type of d-man we need. Spending 4.5-6 mil on a guy like that would be moronic.

He is average defensively on a good day.

We really need a big physical guy on the back end

We havent been able to stop teams from setting up a good cycle game all year.

How many #5-6 d-men do we need? I think Emelin is a better #5 than O'brien.

I think Subban and Markov are both effective at stopping the cycle.

Washington as a whole has had a hard time this year. If you sign the "hot" guys you will probably overpay like Cammalleri. Signing Semin for 6 mil would be a "buy low" type move.

Artyukhin had 23 pts in 47 games this year in KHL.(16) goals hit on radar screens.
I would invite him to camp , as the Habs have gave up there pansy ways, for tougher meaner guys.
He fits the bill perfect.

Markov helps

Subban, Gorges, and Markov give 3/4 of a top 4

Is Emelin the 4th? Maybe, but sophomore slumps seem to hit dmen frequently

I'd like to add a 20min per game 4/5 defenceman.

Gorges - Subban
Markov - Emelin/UFA
Kaberle - UFA/Emelin
Diaz

A tough defensive partner would help Kaberle a ton as well

Good mix of offence and defence on each of those pairings too

Darche was in the NHL because he is a guy coaches love because he shows up every night, is reliable defensively and can kill penalities, he also scored 12 goals in 59 games with limited ice time last year. He may or may not be back here but he will be in the NHL next year.
