If there is a portion in his contract that says the Preds can legally ask him to stop tweeting and his union has approved that aspect....yes

But, in general, there is no legal right that an employer can make you to stop tweeting.

Do employers do that, yes, but there are also several court cases going on, and several states considering laws to prevent employers from doing that.

Employers have no rights legally over this, but people are pressured because they don't want to lose their job.

Someone should change the title of this thread to Blum's Blundering Tweets apparently...nice to come in to see what's wrong with a promising young swiss dman and all I read is about Blum tweeting how he is sad. That said, I love Josi, hope he's ok and can recover quickly as I think if Suter walks, he could jump into that role and fill it relatively well.

Blum will be our new Klein!

Josi best not have another concussion. that's a terrible frequency - 3 in less than a couple years? as for the Preds, we need him back sooner rather than later to get the pairings settled in for POs - Trotz likes to have those pairs set while he pulls numbers outta' his hat to make up the line combos!

Why? Because then he can get in closer to his fans. Make him feel like a real person rather than just player on a NHL team like in a video game.

The upside is that people would get to know him as a REAL PERSON and not twist his words and then judge what he is saying based on those "twists". Because of people on this board (and a few other places), a few of the players have stopped tweeting (ex: Colin Wilson) because people read their tweets in such incorrect fashion. It's downright silly that we use such a great tool to connect with OUR TEAM's players (that has NEVER been available before this generation) to get to know them better as REAL PEOPLE, and instead use it to twist their words and make them sound like something else. It's disgusting to me.

Here's the problem though:

You're in effect saying that when fans' assessments of tweets is critical, they're wrong and you're right. In other words, your assessment is the correct one.

That's the problem with famous people tweeting. Both "sides" can interpret the tweet, and nobody can really say which side is right and with is wrong.

I can't get to know Jon Blum as a real person unless I happen to meet him through some mutual friend and we hit it off. That's very unlikely. Just because he tweets doesn't mean he's going to send me his cell number or play golf with me (though I'll be happy to take any Pred out for a round of golf).

Since I don't know him as a real person, all I can do is form my own opinion about what his tweets are conveying. If I happen to think his tweets are negative in tone, that doesn't make me a bad person.

It's also naive for athletes or other famous people to think they can put 140-characters out there and expect people that don't know them, their teammates, the coaches or the situation to interpret it correctly. But yet they get indignant when "Ugh...practice sucks...coach all over me" is taken as a negative rather than, "I had a bad day at practice today because I didn't sleep well last night and the coaches were really encouraging me to do better."

In short, if athletes want to put stuff out there, they have to understand that not everyone is going to read it the way they intended, and that doesn't make them against them.

What you describe here is known as "building your brand". A youngster such as Blum with nothing more than a high school education is much more prone to misrepresenting the way he wants to be percieved than leaving the impression he would like with his readers. That is why people pay big money to PR specialists to carefully craft their message. Given Blum's apparent proclivities toward being immature then laying it out there for everyone to see, he would be better off keeping his fingers at bay than tweeting.

according to Cooper, the decision to keep Josi in Nashville or have him join the team in Cali for the weekend games will be made soon. I think its a good sign that they haven't made that decision yet. It indicates that the injury might not be the c word.

Alright guys, I'm part of the problem but we are wayyyy off topic here. No more Blum talk unless it directly relates to Josi.

Thanks redbeard for pointing it out.

agreed. isn't it an absolute minimum of one week off if the c is actually diagnosed? which if true would make saturday not an option, and probably not sunday

Update on Josi:

Josi probable for Monday: Trotz said that defenseman Roman Josi (“upper body”) likely won’t meet the team in Southern California, but was hopeful for a return to action early next week.
Josi remains out of the lineup for tonight's game. The rookie has four goals and 15 points in his first 47 NHL games.

When he's healthy. Good guess when that will be since the exact injury is a closely guarded secret.

Let's assume Josi has a concussion. I read somewhere that players usually skate for a week without symptoms before being cleared to resume play. Since he skated Wed. 3/21, is it reasonable to expect his earliest return next Tues (Blues) or Fri (Wings)? Assuming he continues to be symptom free, I'm trying to determine the best case scenario. There's no doubt he is a very valuable part of this teams defense.

It's confirmed on NP-Hompage .... Josi will play

The biggest news of the day was word that Roman Josi, Martin Erat and Jordin Tootoo are all ready to return to the lineup tomorrow night. "Roman will be in. Toots should be in. Marty's going to be in," head coach Barry Trotz said after practice. "We'll get some people back."

True, but Josi is a rookie this season only because of his injuries in the previous years. If he hadn't been injured in Camp before the 10/11 season, he would probably have been called up before Blum last year. I remember Lambert saying Josi was the most talented D-man in MIL since Suter. He's been ready for the NHL, but injuries have delayed his entry to the big stage.

My issue with this paraphrased quote from Lambert on Josi is Lambert didn't start assisting in Milwaukee until 2006-2007. Suter only played in Milwaukee in 2004-2005, when Lambert was with the Prince George Cougars. I have yet to read the quote. Is it more or less a "Josi is the best dman in Milwaukee since Suter" comment simply comparing Josi's skill set to Suter's? Because others have insinuated that Lambert was speaking as if he coached both...
