Gotta feel for the sharks announcers. I don't hear much homerism when I tune into the broadcast, and they have a sense of humor in the commentary once and a while too. Must be hard to watch from the booth thats for sure.

I'm not saying different but if you think someone is going to come out and say this I have a bridge to sell ya too.

The only time they got homerish was during the playoffs last year, but I guess that's understandable.

I understand you want to be with your family dude but didn't you see this coming? Was it really so necessary to jump ship here?

I'm not so sure him leaving wasn't for the best but I wish he wouldn't complain about losing. It's not like we are a powerhouse or anything but I think any analyst, coach, or player would have told you the Kings were going to have a more successful year than Edmonton.

Have fun closing out your career in Edmonton, Ryan.
He has 4 goals since January 2nd on a decent offensive team, and offers absolutely nothing in any other facet of the game of hockey. Could you imagine if he didn't want out, and we still had him?

I don't think the reasons he told the media were his true intentions. Smyth probably always intended to finish career with the Oilers, play his last season in Edmonton. When he signed his 4(?) year deal with Colorado he probably assumed he'd play at least 1-2 more years afterwards.

Then, at the end of last season he realized how sore he was and the wear and tear that the season was having on his body. He was afraid he would be jeopardizing that goal of playing in Edmonton one last time if he didn't ask for a trade. He didn't do it for his kids education, he did it because he was legitimately afraid that this would be his last season. He could either go to Edmonton to potentially close out his career like he always planned on, or play his last season in LA which, although likely a playoff team, gave no guarantee of a cup. Not to mention, 82 games in Edmonton would be a lot easier on his body than 90 games with LA. If he was confident he'd have at least 2 more season in him (last summer) then he'd have played out his contract and signed with the oilers in the off season.

Bouwmeester just scored on his own goal. That guy can not catch a break.

Crosby a 4 point night after 2 against Buffalo.

1 goal 3 assists.

I like how people call him a secondary assist machine and discredit his point totals. If it were that easy then everyone would have 80+ points and 50+ assists in a regular basis...

Guy is damn good. He just puts himself...and other players for that matter in the right positions to get points.

A healthy Crosby is arguably the best player in the NHL if not the world. I didn't know that anyone even questioned that idea.

Evgeni Malkin can make a strong case.

Bunch of retard fans in a posting on the main boards about a week ago were pointing out how many secondary assists he gets, and were pretty much downplaying his quality of play since returning...

I was pretty shocked.

Oh, makes more sense now.

Malkin does make a very good case but he can be streaky in his own end (sounds gross put that way) but he is absolutely possibly right there with Syd.

Perfect night for the Kings.

You guys are crazy. What has Malkin ever done to compare himself to Sid? Sure he's had 3 awesome years but he's never LED HIS TEAM to an Olympic Gold medal or even won a World Junior gold. And he only won his Stanley Cup because Sid was there to lead the way. Could Malkin be called the 2nd best in the world? Sure. But close to or on par with Sid? Never.

Skill wise I think Malkin is comparable. Throw in the intangibles and that's when Crosby becomes the best player in the world. I think the same goes for Ovechkin. Skill wise it's close. But intagibles again make Crosby head and shoulders the best player.

Just posted in the main board thread about this.

Sidney Crosby is a very special player the likes of which we haven't seen since Lemieux/Gretzky in my opinion. I'll root for the guy all the way up until it's Pens/Kings for the Cup final. Players like him are why sports, and hockey, can be so incredible.

I agree and that is why I said "A healthy Crosby is arguably the best player in the NHL if not the world. I didn't know that anyone even questioned that idea" in my initial post.

What you are responding to is my reply to Malkin making an argument for being the best in the world. I agree that he is right up there in talent but Syd is still in my opinion arguably the best player in the world hands down.

At some point injuries will come into play just like they did for another famous Penguin center but while they are both young and playing, it is Syd for my money.

Another way to put it would be who would you rather have on the Kings, Syd or Gino? To me it is easy but you can't really lose either way.

I think Crosby is the best player in the world, but Malkin did carry him(the entire team) to that cup. He set a record for playoff points that year or something
