Figured out how to do crossovers in my old roller blades, then tried it on ice. A four year old taught me how to spin at an open skate, that was the hook. Been skating 4-6 times a week since just after the new year when my ill-fitting RBK 4ks arrived courtesy of Perani's online. Anyone know of a skate-shop in North America that specializes in BIG FEET (13eee shoe here). If so, PLEASE PM.

I found out about HFBoards from Jarick, through the cool wrist shot analysis on his blog.
I'm originally from the Bay Area. I visited the San Jose Arena (now called the HP Pavilion) shortly after it opened to write a school report. My mom took me to a Sharks game where we had tickets in the first ten rows. I remember that a Shark scored the game winning goal and everyone leaped to their feet except my mom who was reading the newspaper. We also had good friends who had access to a corporate box and we hung out there once.
I just happen to be living in New England now. Guess I could adopt a team from around here, but haven't gotten around to it...

How is the hockey scene in Charlotte? My mom lives in Statesville and next time I come down I want to go to open hockey.
It's there. There are two rinks within a half-hour's drive from my house and everybody bounces back and forth between the two since the costs for ice time are basically the same at each location. One of the rinks has open pickup games everyday and two times a day during the week. I play on Wednesdays and we have enough folks to play 5 on 5 with a few subs, but lately goalies have been hard to come by. To get to the rinks from Statesville, you're looking at a pretty good drive (45min to an hour) unfortunately.
As far as level of interest goes: The only people who care about hockey are transplants from up North. I'm the only person that I know who was born in NC and plays hockey. The answers I usually get when asking people about hockey are that they can't skate or they find it boring (what?!).
I'd ask you to come and play a pickup game with me the next time you're down, but I'm leaving for Texas for 7 months come mid-April. If you want any more information, feel free to PM me.
