Komisarek getting himself beat up in Boston shows you where his heart is.

I hope he gets dealt to a team where he is a better fit.

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 196364, 196667 and 196970 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 197071 and 197273. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 197071, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

I remember at the beginning of the season when the team was doing well (especially the 4 wins in a row) Phaneuf was playing great, but the last 2 months he has been the opposite. I really hope next season will be better.

i didn't mind article at all

another BB screw up by giving dion the C and surrounding him with As that sit in stands......that is not dion's fault

missing sundin's gigs was a no no if dion did not have prior engagements booked

getting after baby schenn was awkward.......was dion sending message to luke??...i found this really odd while i watched.......the game was outta hand already

when our goalies were playing well, no one ragged on dion like this now

i think dion would good captain one day after he realizes he need to be more coachable

a captain has to lead by example, one ice he is brutal in D coverage...off ice he is too inexperienced to handle the pressure from TO, the mecca and centre of the hockey universe

toronto media circus and fan pressure is really screwing up his game now

i really dont think we are going to win another game this year......great for better pick

Leafs fans in a nutshell:

We can bash the team as much as we want, but when it comes to media; they can't post the reality.

Nonsense. There are plenty of other things to talk about. And plenty of other targets for the media.

Leafs fans aren't "professional" journalists (and I use that term loosely)

He has always seemed to have a huge chip on his shoulder and I think it's only getting worse being cappo. I really like that Komi owned up. Phaneuf has put up good point totals, but he also plays on the same line as Lupul and a top 10 point getter, his defensive awareness has been god awful most nights

team is doing well - "they have great leadership!"
team is doing poorly - "they have bad leadership!"

no idea if the leafs have good or bad leadership but I don't really care. It's an incredibly minor thing in hockey imo

mean, what exactly do people picture a good leader doing anyways? jump up in the middle of the dressing room and start playing air guitar? singing some hockey anthem?

even Ray Lewis rants don't really do anything. Those guys are born hyped up they don't need a maniac to remind them.

Incapable of self-criticism? What? He consistently criticizes himself.

Feschuk is an idiot.

No one who has ever been called a great leader did it without great teamates and vice versa.

The same unbiased fans on the main boards that say all is well in the NHL as long as the Leafs aren't a competitive hockey club? As long as the subject of the thread is something negative about the Leafs then yea they will agree with you.

Dumbest article that's come out yet. When Sundin was 26 he led the team to a 69 pt finish. 69 POINTS. People would be furious if sucked that much.

Phaneuf isn't the type of player to carry the team on his back, but he's the right identity for this team. He just needs better players around him. We have 2 first liners and 1 first pairing NHL players (Kessel, Lupul, Phaneuf) and you aren't getting very far if that's all you have in the talent department.

Articles like this are such BS cause they make it out to seem the captain should have some magic power where at the drop of a hat he can change the mentality of a team or make some the people around him more talented.

Is Dion a perfect player? No.

Is Dion an ideal captain? Maybe not.

But he's had absolutely no help in the matter of leadership with this team.

Cause A - The two assistants Armstrong and Komisarek have been so poor this year they have been healthy scratches most nights.

And B - No veteran or mentor was brought in to help him along(Like Roberts was for Mats). When Tim Connolly is your most seasoned player there's probably going to be an issue with leadership.

Those issues lay at the feet of one man, The Manger.

So people(media and some fans) need to stop blaming the lack of talent of about 10-12 of the other players on Dion's leadership.
A thousand times this. We all know we don't have that stabilizing veteran presence, but, I think more importantly, we also don't have secondary leadership AT ALL, veteran or otherwise. We have guys who play with a lot of heart, like Grabovski and Brown, and we have guys who can lead by example, like Kessel, but We don't have those secondary leaders that every team must have.

(This is not to say Dion shouldn't shoulder some of the blame, but the team really needs some more character guys. Not necessarily veterans, but definitely better alternate captains than Komisarek and Armstrong)

Is Dion a great captain? No.
Is Dion a great defenceman? No.
Was it something special with his hit on B Schenn? No.

Dion is a good offensive d-man who due to low hockey IQ cant plat it safe in his own end for long periods of time. He is still tough and when in form a very good player.

And yes, Dion have a lot to learn about a lot of things. Will he? Not sure but I can't see us trading him.

Yeah, I remember that. Dion was playing on a whole another level before that. Its not that he was bad after Wilson said that but his game did drop off.

As for Dion's leadership, I'm not sure I would blame him. I don't like him as a captain at all and never thought he should have been one but even as a captain, one player can only do so much. There needs to be other leaders in the room helping him out and not just in the dressing room but leading by example and Leafs just haven't had anyone do that. Not enough talent and terrible goaltending is the reason more than anything for the Leafs collapse.
