Scotty Bowman to Toronto?
Anyone watching the Sens/Philly game on CBC? Ron Maclean brought up Scotty Bowman and said "rumours" to Toronto?
Has anybody else out there mentioned such a thing?

Pretty much the only person that would be a clear cut upgrade over Burke, but why would Bowman come out of retirement for this?

Maybe he was referring to the last time the Leafs had a Gm opening prior to Burke.
Scotty is too old now. Burke isn't going anywhere.

Based on what? Bowman's GM experience is not very successful.

Almost happened in 08 before this nonsense:
Quote:
The Leafs made the unusual announcement in the off-season that they were seeking someone to oversee embattled general manager John Ferguson. Speculation was that Bowman, a paid consultant to the Detroit Red Wings, was the team's first choice.

Even if he's Burke's successor he'd become the president with a management team running the show.

Scotty Bowman wins cups with all star teams. He'd do nothing with this roster.
Seriously, anyone see the teams Bowman coached? The Phil Jackson of the NHL.

Scotty Bowman would be awesome to have as a coach. However, for anything else the Leafs should not bother as his past management abilities were not stellar.

Maybe they mentioned the 2008 rumours. Let me rewind my PVR and see it again.

Perhaps he meant as an executive advisor. Certainly not as GM at his age. Besides, there are a number of capable successors already in place.

Fixed. Burke's record supports that.

OK. He says Scotty Bowman will be a guest at 6:30 pm tonight on CBC and he does link him to both Montreal and Toronto.
Not sure where Maclean is getting this from but he does indeed say it.

Yeah but at least Burke had a hand in assembling that All Star team. Bowman stood behind the bench and was all "Oh hey, Lidstrom, go out there and be the best defencemen of the modern era".
Thank God he gave Nik that advice. Who knows where he would've gone from there.

I don't think that Anaheim team was as good as any of the cup winning teams Scotty coached.

I haven't heard any rumours about Toronto or Montreal.
I'll be pretty shocked if Roy doesn't end up in Montreal.

Yup. Bowman is an amazing coach, but he was never that good in a GM role. Though he did have control over the roster comings and goings.

Bowman is so old, they should be naming a trophy after him pretty soon...

We already have an elder statesman as an advisor, that would be Cliff Fletcher, we don't need another one. He is just a name. He wouldn't provide anything more of value than the other assistant GMs we have.

Bowman is getting too old to be the GM. If he EVER came, and I'd still say that's extremely unlikely, it'd be an an adviser of some sorts.

Come on now... he hasn't earned "cups" yet.
Also I doubt Bowman would come out of retirement. He's getting up there in age. I had no idea he was 79.

If he came here his position would be "Bro to hang out with." for Fletcher.
I wouldn't say no though. How do you say no to that guy?
