Teams management have history of trading at the draft
Stewart I think would go nuts on a line with Spezza feeding him the puck and not having to worry about playing the trap system.
I suppose it depends on if a player the Blues scouting staff covets is there ala Tarasenko. Stewart would definitely do better in Ottawa's much more run and gun system.
Turris is 2 years younger, is a 2 way CENTER, and was a former top 3 pick. And he is playing much better than Stewart is.
The guy who he was moved for Rundblad was himself a mid firstround pick and was acquired for a mid firstround pick by Ottawa.
Clarified what I'm sure was an accidental typo.
I would add that not only is Turris playing much better than Stewart is, but this is after missing all of training camp and part of the season. Next year, with a full offseason of training and conditioning, as well as a full training camp, and familiarity with our team's players and system, he should be even better (not to mention his added incentive, due to it being a contract year).
Hitch is cancer for Stewarts career at this point which makes the Blue Note a motivated seller
tough to get anywhere near equal value with those kinds of operating conditions, not to mention what Stewarts value is.
With the instant success Hitch has brought over to the top of the league defensively expect the honeymoon to last for a couple of more seasons until Blues can develop high end offensive players or have them join the team from the prospect ranks.
Right now, they got the perfect team as far as the collection of hard working but no big name players up front.
Also if Stewart was to have a repeat of this year next year again at 25 by then under Hitch, his value would be a lot lower than it is right now as in maybe a 2nd. And with the type of player he is and his style with his days with the frontenacs, I don't see an improvement next year under Hitch. If he isn't scoring he is more closer to his old bro who is a bit more lazy than he is. But Stewart is more gifted and I think would not only turn his career around but thrive playing in an open system with top flight C. No one knows for sure but I would bet on it, and that is why I would risk a 15-17 1st rd pick which holds significant value IMO despite what some might say. This time next year if Stewart does not show improvement under Hitch, no one will offer close to such value.

I agree with this assessment. Getting a mid-first for Stewart would be a good pickup for the Blues. I would actually prefer to get a prospect for Stewart, but either way, the Blues could continue to feed their pipeline, which is important. Not only that, but it frees up a substantial amount of money to improve the roster.

It also makes it possible for the Blues to move up in round 1.
If we get, say, Ottawa's 1st round pick, we would be sitting around 16.
Package the 16th overall with the 30th overall and we could maybe get into the top 10 around 8 or 9. That would give us a shot at Morgan Reilly or Griffin Reinhart. Either one could be the potential top pairing d-man we need for the future. The only problem is that they'd be 3 years away.

He was not playing better then Stewart at the time of the trade. Stewart has scored 28 goals twice. the draft spot doesn't matter. Is Turris worth more then Benn? Is Turris worth more then Backes? Weber?
Do you honestly expect Turris to be more then a 30 goal scoring 70 point player? Stewart has can be that.
Ummm, what? Lol. Johnson has been outstanding this year. Get out and watch more than 4 Avs games a year before making dumb
comments like this.
Please.
Granted I've only seen about 4 Avs games this month but EJ supposedly is playing much better since coming back from injury. Like a top pairing d-man according to Avs fans.
I pretty much focus in on EJ when I watch since he is really all I care about on the Avs. I really haven't noticed outstanding play from him. He looks good but I see nothing special. He can rush the puck up ice very well but still turns it over in the offensive zone. He also makes quite a few questionable decisions in the defensive zone as well. His hockey sense is remains subpar.
It says a lot that Joe Sacco, a coach that has you on the brink of the playoffs, has given EJ just 19:38 a game in March and he has 0 points in 12 games. You'd think a player with Johnson's potential would be given WAY more ice time than that if he were playing like a top pairing d-man.
Shattenkirk has averaged 22:13 a game in March and he plays behind Alex Pietrangelo on the right side. And just think about the system Ken Hitchcock uses. You can't go out there and play 22 minutes a night on defense without being a very quality defender in your own end.
EJ has more potential, no doubt about it. But Shattenkirk has been better this year, no doubt about it.
Watch some Blues games. You'll be happy that you did. Shattenkirk has developed into a great all-around defenseman.

Probably not, but he could and does show the upside and skill in stretches. Even if he does not he is a speedy 6-2 or 6-2 lanky 2 way C with good frame that still needs a lot of developing in terms of putting on weight and getting stronger. Never-mind his holdout and getting rushed and not probably developed in phnx, dude just needs to get stronger I think in order to be a two way force. I like that he does not float around even through he is just a skinny 6-2 187 lb. Ever since he's got to Ottawa his scoring is at around 45-50 pts and 20 goal pace over 82 games with excellent 2 way defensive presence holding down 2nd line C behind Spezza. Even next year and beyond if he gets you 25 goals and 60 pts a season playing a complete game, you are very happy.
Stewart is a different player. One I think that can score even 40 goals with Spezza, but he does not bring a complete game or hustle and D. I would like it if Chris can play more physical also. Guy could be dominant if he gets it going in the right environment with the right coach.

EJ's been battling back spasms for most of the year, especially this last month. Thats the reason for the lower ice time.
This is not a comparison thread. This is a trade proposal thread. We do not need everyone one of these turning into a mess. Please get back on topic or move along.
Hmm, Stewart for Ottawa's first? I'm not sure that I'd do it. A lot of the discussion on trading Stewart seems to be based around the Blues being healthy. Let's see how healthy they are once the off-season comes. One or two long-term injuries between now and the start of the off-season, and there goes that depth.
Hitch is a cancer stays up but calling out Hitch is a cancer to Stewart's career as "dumb" is over the line? That's all the comment I made. Screw that.
