Norfolk Admirals win 28 straight to end regular season

Quote:
NORFOLK, Va. Ė Goals by Ondrej Palat and Philip-Michael Devos helped to erase a one-goal deficit, as the Norfolk Admirals (49-18-1-2) defeated the St. Johnís IceCaps (39-21-5-3), 2-1, on Friday night in front of 7,348 fans at Norfolk Scope Arena. The Admirals' extended their winning streak to 22 games after completing the two-game sweep of St. Johnís.
Jon Cooper has been amazing with Norfolk, Tokarski and Janus both have 20 wins, Conacher is a machine. This matches (I believe) the Houston Rockets win streak.

----------------------

Capped off with a big win and hat trick by MVP Cory Conacher, what a finish.

The East is pretty weak. The first round they will get a team like Syracuse. Connecticut and BPort are okay, if they get Hershey I think they are the biggest threat, they have exercised some of their WBS demons this year.

Whoever's controlling them really needs to man up and raise the difficulty level already.

If the Caps can get healthy they can give them a run.

I agree, the Admirals vs the Washington Capitals would be a good series

Blasphemy...Blasphemy

St John's has had Caps as a hockey team nickname for a generation before Washington had a NHL team

The east is weak as a whole. That is why none of them want to come to the west. The last time a hot eastern conference team did a west conference swing, they won something like 1 of 8 games. I think it was Providence the year they had 110+ points.

I don't have numbers for the entire Eastern Conference, but since the Sharks moved to Worcester they are 11-3-0-0 vs Western Conference teams and the divisions they were playing in (Atlantic/East) are (as of this morning) 80-69-4-7 vs the Western Conference.

They have played Houston and San Antonio and Rochester. Please. They haven't played the Admirals, Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, etc.

Also, the Admirals streak is interesting. How many of those wins were OT or shootout? So comparing them to teams that played before OT and shootouts is not a fair comparison so to say they surpassed, they had more opportunities to win since all games must now have a winner.

Just One

Just one by overtime or shootout in the 22.

I'm just pointing out that what you posted doesn't match the small sample size I'm aware of.

That's something you could have looked up yourself in about 15 seconds. Norfolk is at 16 wins in a row in regulation. In the streak they have one non-regulation win.

In 2008 Providence had a winning record against the West that season, although they did go on a losing streak when they swung thru Rockford, Chicago and Houston. But it wasn't even close to 1-7.

Impossible to diminish what Norfolk has done here. I haven't checked the scores the last week or so, but many of the games midway thru this run in early March were not even close.

We don't know which conference is better because Andrews won't schedule many out of conference games. Bears fans have been waiting to play teams for years now. I can't even remember the last time we played Chicago, Milwaukee, Toronto, Hamilton, etc in the regular season. I know we have never played the newer teams like OKC, Peoria, and Rockford. Andrews needs to allow for more out of conference games and not let Hershey play Wilkes Barre 16 times a year and play Norfolk 8 times and so on

Andrews doesn't control the schedule - the owners do. Until they decide they want a more open schedule, it won't happen. Personally, I think we're not too far away from a total split of the conferences.

The East teams are happy with their short little bus league, penny pinchers!

Yes, darn those owners for wanting to control their costs.

25 is a fluke, 26 is a streak.

I've been surprised this is not more of a big deal. Winning 1/3rd of your season in a row is simply amazing to me, especially when you consider it's the longest streak in professional hockey history.

Was nice to see a sellout crowd last night. Hopefully this follows through the playoffs.

I think we could on a regular basis but A, we don't have a strong "home base", lots of transplants from other areas, due to the large military population, and B, said large military population.
