We already have an elder statesman as an advisor, that would be Cliff Fletcher, we don't need another one. He is just a name. He wouldn't provide anything more of value than the other assistant GMs we have.
Scotty already has a job, as asst and confidant of his son Stan who is GM of the Black Hawks, look over their prospect list and compare to our's it's not pretty.
I dont get this rumor. Bowmans nearly 80 & is under contract to Chicago as a Special Adviser, about all he wants to handle at this stage in his life. Maybe for sentimental reasons he breaks out of his deal with the Hawks & does the same with the Habs if whomever they hire even wants Scottys advice, but for now, Molson hired Savard for that role....
back in 08 of course Bowman was going to take the job in Toronto however Peddie broke off talks & the rest is history.... going way back, Don Cherry was offered the Coaching position in Toronto in 78 or 79, but had to decline as he'd already given his word to Colorado. Ballard never did forgive Grapes for turning him down, and when changes were made through the 80's despite the fan favorite and really best candidate in Cherry, Ballard would have none of it.
hes goneeeeeee baby.....seriously a good PR move by habs or leafs .....just to bring some order and help burle ....burke looks 80 now .....i think rogers /bell wanna make sure their gm's are not bigger than the team or owners ...people are tiring of burke quickly .
by the way .....our prospect pool is better now but it aint great ...
Why would bowman come to this pathetic team? The maple leafs with all their negativity, doom and gloom, depressing atmosphere, along with the substantial amount of pressure to get this team to succeed would ultimately put scotty bowman into cardiac arrest.
The retired guy the Leafs really need is Jimmy Develano from Detroit. He knows how to build and properly rebuild a team and he is also a Leafs season ticket holder. Clean house, put JD in charge for a year or two and then go from there. Or even make him Burkie's supervisor with enough veto power to make sure Burkie doesn't make any more of his misguided moves.
Richard Peddie's job needs filling and Burke can then report to him in that role.
Peddie's job is a business job not a sports job. I don't think Bowman is at all suitable. And as I understand it, Burke and Coangelo both report directly to the board not to the President of MLSE (Peddie's old job).
