it's amazing the warriors beat writer would get the nba playoff seeding rules incorrect. it's not div winners get top 3 seeds (like nhl), it's div winners + next best team = top 4 seeds. and since home court is determined by record, it can be effectively a #5 seed. the atlantic div is garbage this year and thus philly (the likely div winner) will be declared 4th seed, but is essentially going to be a 5th seed against the pacers (pacers will have home court).

dallas could be as high as 2nd seed even if they are 2nd in their own division if the other 2 div champs have inferior records. i'm really not sure how a sports writer covering said sport can get this wrong.
