I thought he looked good tonight. Better than I expected for a kid who has no pro experience and had little time to prepare with the team. He wasn't physical and stay away from the rough stuff and I didn't see him use his skating skills to full use. You can tell he definitely needs to bulk up over the summer, but all that stuff will work itself out. It was just his first game. What I did like was you could tell he's a really smart player. Offensively he found the empty spots of ice and opened himself up as an option where he was set up for 2 good chances. Defensively he covered his man, so without much knowledge of systems he did a good job of being in the right spot at the right time. He drew 2 penalties too which was really good.
I doubt we'll see much of the grit and physicality he played with in college until he's fully confident at this level and fills out a bit, which would be understandable. He played well tonight, he's obviously a smart player and didn't look out of place at this level. I really liked his defensive responsibility too.

Was great to watch him come back defensively twice and find the uncovered man sneaking into the offensive zone and go after him rather than watch....smart kid.
jt's the man. im guessing he went to tampa bc of how soon he could play. also the weather isnt too bad being from MN. its good to see him playing with legit linemates too, thats nice to see. im gonna miss him playing at school next year...

I am a UMD fan just checking in on JT's first game. Sounds like he didn't do too much. Probably just trying not to make a big mistake. Your assessment sounds pretty right on though. He was a good physical player with an edge that seems to get mad and turn his game on. He just needs to bulk up and become comfortable in the system

lightning play monday on nbcsn! tuning in to watch jt (and stammer)
Really enjoyed watching JT's debut. Fast skater and not afraid to go to the corners and in front of the net. Really thought that he might score in his first game.
