New hope: WSH somehow pulls out the division over FLA
That would actually be best case scenario IMO. FLA in eighth.

St. Louis loses 5-2, still 1 point behind the Rangers but NY has 1 game in hand. If Canucks win they are tied with the Rangers, same number of games but NYR has tiebreaker

I'm pretty sure NYR would have a game in hand after today. We have the most difficult schedule of the 3 though. But hey the Blues lost to Columbus, they can lose to anybody.
If we win 3/4 of our remaining games, we win the President's Trophy.
Yea but we have 4 tough teams, and the canucks have the ducks, flames, oilers aka 3 non playoff teams, and we have 3 of the 4 best teams in the East and the caps. Ugh not a good combo at all. That being said, I badly want 2 new banners locked up...those rafters need a new addition.

That's the perks of playing a division that's worse than the southeast minus the Canucks. 2 of those brutal 3 games are division games for us, 2 of 3 joke games for them are division games.
Can someone please tell me how the Rangers can become something other than the underdog? We're the 8 seed last year, I get it. We were destined to lose.
We're ahead in the race for the Presidents Trophy this year, and we're still the underdog, according to some. Apparently, Caps will sweep us, even though there's a possibility that game 82 for them will be a must-win in order to even make it to the postseason. Yet the team that's clinched home ice has been picked to lose by some.

Number one seeds haven't proved much in recent years. First round-exits are always a possibility. The Caps got Backstrom back and people think he'll be a big difference. The Rangers have a lot to prove in the post-season.
Let them talk and speculate. I'd rather they'd be the underdogs.

Only if you're the Caps.
Backstrom was a complete nonfactor in last years's playoffs. It's always Semin who ruins it.

Bingo. I hate the hype machine that gets built up. Let the Penguins worry about that.
