i hope and pray that Ruff, Roy, and Vanek are ALL gone... otherwise, we have to go through this again next year...
I'm not ready to let go of vanek. I believe he is injured right now. The dude was playing great hockey since April 2010 and on. Pominville and him carried this team a few months ago. Then he gets banged up, and all goes to hell.
I bet if the Sabres would have went into a defensive shell to try and minimize the D injury impact, the usual suspects blame Ruff for that.
They try to continue playing their game, and it's Ruff's fault for that too. Yes, Ruff gave up the puck instead of Sekera on the power play. Yes, Ruff is directly responsible for Derek Roy being a hot pile of flaming ****.
Afino---May I ask you on what possible grounds you defend Ruff as you do?
And not to harp on it--OK, maybe a little--I still don't get why Brennan wasn't utilized on the PP, especially with how much guys like Sulzer, Sekera, and Leo were going to play at ES and on the PK. That would've been a great opportunity to best utilize Brennan's skills, and give those other guys some rest.
Also, that last play--the slapshot off the faceoff--was tailor-made for Brennan. Instead, it was Leo.
Or Sekera on the point earlier in the game. Give Brennan a chance to play to his strengths. Eh. It's like splitting up FES late in the game or putting Dyson out there in the final minute. I know Ruff has this paternal thing with Roy, but speaking as a parent, even I know there is a time and place to sit my own son down for the good of the team. That was the spot to put Foligno out and staple the human suck machine to the bench.

Yep. Was honestly shocked FES wasn't out in its entirety for that.

I defend Ruff when he's attacked unnecessarily, like the fact that injuries to his top two defensemen, forcing Sulzer into the top 4, are suddenly his fault when they lose to Toronto.

are you done with Roy?
we could really use some clout on our side... join us!\
even with Myers and Ehrhoff out they should still win this game.
Agree. I hope we're not back to blaming injuries. We were playing the Leafs and everything was on the line! They were 9 points back of us and playing poorly.
And we managed to lose and quite a few didn't even show up.
Injuries are not an excuse..... What mattered was how bad Sulzer and Leopold, et al played. (Not to mention certain fwds.)
THIS. Ugh. Why not put him out at the end instead of 6 forwards -- replace Vanek who just didn't show anything all game.
Don't know if it matters in the end though. Our D is so much worse without Myers/Ehrhoff.
Personally I think it makes sense to have Vanek in that situation. He doesn't need to be spry to have made the difference in front of the net. 6 forwards shot them in the arse though. Hodgson isn't fast enough to get back cleanly, Poms isn't fluid enough to get away cleanly from behind the net. I don't mind Poms at the point at all, he's quite good for a forward at playing defense, but pairing him with Hodgson didn't work out and I didn't think it would.

Ruff and Roy I could careless about.
I am. For a team as close to the cap as us his $7 million cap hit can be spent so much better.

Maybe so -- I think I still prefer Foligno out there, but yeah, get at least one defenseman back there with Pommers.
Like any other team that loses their top two defensemen that can play 25+ minutes a game and can push the breakout, not to mention QB the power play.
But yes, it's Ruff.
No. Some teams persevere. The Flyers lose Pronger they keep going. Pens lose letang, Michalek, and martin and keep going. Ruff losses Ehrhoff and Myers and the excuse is golden for Sabre fans. **** that **** win a game vs. ****ing toronto for ****s sakes. Brennon and McNabb played good enough it wasnt their ****ing faults.

I haven't and won't blame Ruff for anything other than who he put on the ice in a certain last minute situation.
This one is on the players and the team's leadership.
