Speaking of lazy Russians, more and more I think once we get rid of Gomez we should try and go for Semin. That sort of skill would look good next to Plekanec and Gionta, at least when he feels like it.

Guy is going to get ripped here the same way Kostitsyn did. Not worth 6 million a year

He might like Kostitsyn's physical edge but he's a far more reliable scorer than AK. He will get ripped for sure but he's closer to Kovalev than Kostitsyn.

I'm not denying his talent but he is the type of player that will not work here. I would pass

Habs fans need to stop pretending we are too good for one way, streaky players. I'm not a Semin fan by any means, he's a temperamental player who often coasts on talent alone, but we don't have a single winger who can dangle the puck. I know everyone wants size and grit but you need skill too, and our only guys with above average hands are all centres.
You add a talent like Semin (assuming no team is stupid enough to give him ridiculous money), you suddenly have a top 6 of Plek, DD, Patches, Cole, Gionta and Semin, Bourque can go back to his natural AK-esque role, we hopefully will have a newly drafted forward who can fight for a place in the NHL. Suddenly we can have two legitimate lines with a potential to roll out 3 scoring lines.
I'm not saying overpay for someone like that but the new GM needs to at least look into that. Our wing depth right now is among the worst in the NHL.
I'd consider paying Cammalleri money for Semin for a short enough contract, 7M would be insanity.
Semin won't take less than his current amount unless everyone says no. I doubt everyone would say no. Some desperate team will pour the money into him if he's staying in the NHL but leaving D.C. Plus, with Montreal high taxes on income, we'll have to pay even more on top of a bidding war.
