Semin won't take less than his current amount unless everyone says no. I doubt everyone would say no. Some desperate team will pour the money into him if he's staying in the NHL but leaving D.C. Plus, with Montreal high taxes on income, we'll have to pay even more on top of a bidding war.
The Isles also have the problem of high taxes too, on a nearly identical scale.
Maybe this has been addressed already, but what is the highest we can finish based on remaining games and games left to be played between competing teams?
Great.. So a Habs regulation loss or the Leafs getting atleast 1 point and the Habs will finish below them in the standings correct?
Basically, if the Leafs get a point in any of their next three games. They cannot fall below us, even if we won all three games. I do not believe we have the tie breaker with Minny, but if they win another game and we lose any, we lock a top three pick.
The Habs have 29 wins and 50 losses including OT and shootouts. Columbus, for as bad as they have been all year, have 27 wins and 52 loses.
That just shows how horrible this season has been, just a plain nightmare. I could not have imagined the Canadiens would ever be this bad. Thank god for a good pick to salvage this season.
Let's hope we never have to witness this kind of year ever again.

A point would put the Leafs at 78 pts. If we win three games, that puts us at 79 points.
What I've calculated, and I hope someone corrects me, is that if we win our three remaining games, and every team competing for draft positions loses every one of their games, we would finish no worse than the 8th seed.
Everyone from Carolina down could still finish below us in a worst case scenario, however unlikely that might be. That's because none of the competing teams play against one another, other than Edmonton and Anaheim twice. Since Edmonton is on the low end, two wins and two loses would still put them behind us in a three win scenario.
As mentioned, Tampa Bay is the cut off point. We can do no worse than 8th.
Here are the scenarios
Games remaining:
Carolina (3 games): If they get a point, we can do no worse than 7th Anaheim (4 games): If they get two points, we can do no worse than 7th, or 6th if Carolina gets a point Islanders (4 games): If they get 2 (but I think 3) points, we can do no worse than 5th if the above two scenarios play out.
In summary, if Carolina gets a 1point in 3 games, Anaheim 2 points in 4 games, and Islanders 3 points in 4 games, then Habs are in the top five regardless of whether they win all three remaining games.
There's more:
Leafs (3 games): If they get 2 points, Habs cannot finish higher even winning out.
So Habs are in very good shape to finish top 4 no matter what they do. The positioning battle is pretty much between Minny, Edmonton and Montreal at this point.
And how's this to cap things off:
Minnesota (4 games) If Minnesota gets 2 more points in those 4 games Montreal (3 games) and Montreal loses 2 more points in 3 games
Then Montreal cannot finish above Minny. Since I'm not good at math, I'll say the Habs have about a 90% chance of being in the top three at this point, with a decent chance at number 2.

I thought the same as you when I said the Leafs need 1 point.. I mistakenly thought the Leafs had a 5 point lead instead of 4 but Frankenheimer straightened us out.. So a Habs regulation loss or Leafs win and they can't finish below us.
Well, my bunch had fun, one of the gang almost got thrown out of the arena because he was heckling Caps fan. So that was an experience. All in all, a good night; we got one point to satisfy my 56 clients,, but not enough to climb the latter. Good.

Wednesday, April 4th home game vs Tampa
Thursday, April 5th in Carolina
Saturday, April 7th home game vs Toronto
It's a good thing we got back to back games cuz I'm afraid they'll come out strong against Tampa and Toronto... As for Carolina, Cole will prolly show off.. Too bad we can't face the Wings 3 times in a row.. Anyways, I hope we loose our next 2 games to then destroy and humiliate Toronto for the last game lol
so tanking aside and actually talking about the game, seeing markov and pk on the PP really gets me excited to see what these two can bring for a (hopefully) full season next year. Our dismal PP really cost us this season along with other things so I'm really looking forward to seeing Markov setting up the pass for PKs slapshot

And that means a good chance at yaks in the lottery.

Ya, we'd finish 23rd. If every team ahead of us, and we win all of ours, we'd be a lottery pick team.
I think it's pretty safe to say we'll be getting a top 5 pick this year, of course unless we trade the pick.
