Hey guys I'm currently in a FHL sim league and I'm struggling with who I should pick with my 1st in the 2012 draft.
Currently I am sitting with the 2nd overall pick but this league is completely based on the NHL so if the 2nd worst team were to win the lottery in the NHL, I too would also win the lottery. Obviously if that happens this post becomes moot and I will most definitely select Yakupov 1st overall.
But my concern right now is who to pick if I stay where I am and draft 2nd or who to pick if I get bumped down to 3rd.
Obviously the consensus is Grigorenko but considering what I have on my roster currently I'm not so sure that is the wisest choice for me to make. Here is my main core going forward:
Forwards:
John Tavares
Tyler Seguin
Nathan Gerbe
Drayson Bowman
Ted Purcell
Adam Henrique
Zack Kassian
Nino Niederreiter
Evgeny Grachev
Paul Byron
Richard Panik
Defense:
Drew Doughty
Chris Butler
Ladislav Smid
Kris Russell
Calvin de Haan
Jonathan Blum
Brayden McNabb
Derek Smith
Korbinian Holzer
Goalie:
James Reimer
Mark Visentin
At least for the foreseeable future I plan to have JT and Seguin both play at centre to have solid scoring options on each line.
Considering that those guys have those spots locked up on my team for the foreseeable future I've just been contemplating whether the addition of another centre like Grigorenko makes sense for my team. Also, the fact that he's been slipping down draft boards lately kind of worries me and makes this decision that much harder
Should I just take BPA and worry about position later? I know I've got decent depth on D for the future (Doughty, Smid, de Haan, Blum, McNabb) but still a lot of those guys haven't shown that much yet in the NHL yet so you never know.
Do you think it would make more sense for me draft a solid D prospect like Murray, Dumba or Reilly or stay the course and go with the BPA in Grigorenko?
Remember that the potential for trading down also exists
Comparing your forwards and D, and with the #2 selection, I'd take Murray. Very young team with some inexperienced guys either way, but Murray could be your #2 D in a few years.
I'm not saying you should take Murray based on need (Your defense is however weak). I'm saying it because with the way that this league is going, if you don't have a deep defense you are going to lose games thus making #1 dmen more valuable than top forwards.
Haven't really gotten a consensus....a few people said to take Murray and a few people said Grigorenko
I'd like to hear what others have to say (or some more reasoning from the people who have already replied to the thread
Another option I have is to package 2nd overall with Nino for 1st overall + something. What do you think that something would have to be in order for it to be a worthwhile deal for my team?
Or do you think there is a player from the list in the OP that would be fair value with the 2nd overall pick in a deal for the #1 selection?
Take Murray. Not only will he be the best defenseman in the draft but Grigorenko is a lazy Russian.
guess you never watched him play and the last thing you should use on here is a quote like that actually...very disrespectful to russians in general.......anyhow he is far from lazy and i easily the 2nd best prospect in the draft and imo is on par with yakupov. Grigorenko to me is having a better playoffs so far than what Yakupov had.
What do people think of a trade involving 2nd overall + Niederreiter for 1st overall and something.....what would that something need to be
Or out of the young assets I named in the opening post who would be a player I could include that would be fair for both sides in this deal: 1st overall for 2nd overall + _______
