So basically this first camp is a slection process whereby they want to see who if any of the SEL "vets" invited MERITS consideration for the team finally to be selected (is there a Final Selection Camp or will they just name the team just before the WC tournament?)...OBVIOUSLY there are:
1. OTHER SEL vets still playing in the playoffs who could be on that team or invited to final selection camp if there is one) --so you have players from the 4 teams still in the SEL playoffs....PLUS you have players from the 2 bottom SEL teams competing in the Qualification for the SEL playoffs against the top 4 Allsvenksan teams to determine which of these 6 will make it to the SEL for next season (they are through 5 games each of this process so far)--so for instance djurgardins is one of the 2 sEL teams involved in this Qualification Series --and surely JAKOB SILFVERBERG could be selected for that final Sweden WC team...
2. You have Swedish NHL'ers who will be available ( those not involved in NHL layoffs AND those whose teams get eliminated in playoffs before the WC starts)..
ADD up all the possibilities from 1 and 2 --and you see there is hardly any chance at all that anyone from the Selection Camp #1 roster of invitees is going to actually be on that Swedish WC squad..Marts may wnt to see who from this Camp shines enough to merit any consideration in case:
i) too many NHL Swedes begg "off" due to the usual reasons: injuries/not 100% health --or the long grind of the NHL season--so too tired--physically or mentally to want to compete for country ..
(probably not too many will beg off using these excuses but,if he is just 1 player short of a full roster--nice to know he has a reserve in place who proved at this camp he could fill the role adequayely).
ii) he finds his roster too "old" and needs 'tweeners" --that is players with 2 or more years of SEL experience who he wants to "develop" for future Swedish WC squads..because IF he just went with the really older SEL vets and NHL'ers hemight if short just 1 or 2 depth role guys --have to rely on perhaps a too young and not ready Jr. with little SEL and no NHL experience ....so instead he wants a pool of
22-25 year olds who he can develop into more WC SEL very experirenced vets that he would draw on in later years as the older vets he puts on the team NOW get too old for the team in a few years...so better to add 1 or 2 of these tweener (in age) SEL guys ,such that doing this every year in 3 years he will have 3-6 guys ready to replace 306 SEL older vets he has NOW who get top consideration for his WC team..
So whether the reasons are due to too many refusals by NHL'ers OR for developing is SEL pool of ore experienced but not too old SEL vets--- he could select 1 or 2 of the guys from this camp to be depth players on the WC roster ...
My guess would be that most of his WC squad willbe NHL'ers, maybe 3-5 are from the SEL ,and of these SEL guys, only 1 is from this selection camp --given a depth spot as a reward for going to this camp and shining there above anyone else there.
So unless nobody at this camp stands out to deserve that last spot on the final WC team, somebody probably does enough to get rewarded with that final roster spot for the World Championship team Sweden will send to that tournament. i think they would want to give a purpose to this selection camp even though everyone knows almost everyone there will not be on the final team...IF they held these camps every year and absolutely nobody at camp was named to the Final WC team (or at least invited to a Final selection camp-if they hold such) -THEN the point of these selection camps is seen as an exercise in wasting time -these players might as wellbe on vacation early... So i do think they must reward at least 1 guy for his attendance at this very long odds of "making it" camp...
^ You're right, this is much of a development camp. A couple vets but also youngish guys that can contribute in the not so distant future. Marts likes to educate his players, get them to buy into his system, and try to make them better over time. Many of them have played for Team Sweden before. Also Team 18/19 guys(perhaps not the most promising ones but guys that could be possibles aswell in a few years time) get valuable experience. We'll see if any of the SEL players on that list makes it. It's highly doubtful. Kronwall(KHL) has a good shot, he's been a steady guy on the National team this season and played last year too. Guys like Enterfeldt and Rasmussen are probably happy just to be invited. Ersberg could be a World Champs backup depending on what's available. From North America, only Lundqvist would be the clear-cut starter over Fasth imo.
A couple(probably not all) of them will also get to play in the Czech hockey games(4-nations tournament) and/or other exhibition games. Sweden will play 10 games in total before the World Champs and new players will come in as they get elimated from the SEL/KHL/NHL/AHL post-seasons.
That has obviously to do with his position as defenseman. If he was a winger he would score his points in a different way. Note: I am not saying that he should be a forward.
I thnik he's way more valuable this way.....he's a borderline PPG player and most of his points are scored frmo 50 feet or farther from the net.

I see it as a given to bring Omark in for Czech hockey games. But I have much higher hopes for the final roster when a playoff round or two are played.
Definitely want Gunnarsson. Gunnarsson, Hedman, Enström are done and Ekman-Larsson could be done within a week. Do want.
With all the players Nashviille acquired at the trading deadline and Radulov they might actually be the favorites against the Red Wings. Not to mention they have more points and might be the home team in game 1. Good for us.

If Chicago have a early exit, I wouldn't mind Stålberg, 20 goals without PP-time is impressive, he got speed is a big body and can score.
Half a point per game playing with top players in Chicago is a question mark. Size and speed works for him, though. We'll see. We must have some players in place before the WC starts and Thörnberg is a strong candidate. And we know what Pääjärvi might add.

Other players with strong seasons are Kronwall, Gunnarsson, Ekholm and Fasth. To be a forward on this team will be fun.
Thats not 100% true, he has bounced around the lines, played a lot with Krüger who isn't exactly a top player in Chicago. Ninth in scoring among the swedish forwards in NHL, works in a grinder line too.
Phoenix has a pretty favorable schedule left, so there's a chance we have to wait a playoff round for OEL.
Extremely important game for Loui and Dallas tonight against SJ. Dallas also has NSH and STL left, hard sched. If they lose tonight I'd say they're done.
Would be fun to see some NHL players in the Czech hockey games and it feels like there will be quite a few of them.
I would have to think Persson is a core player over Mårtensson, even if it's on the 3rd o 4th line. Tony had 4 points in 15 playoff games aswell.. maybe he's injured.
Gunnarsson separated shoulder.. so we can scratch him.
I think your defense is pretty spot on other than that landskronala. If no other NHL D gets here for Czech hockey game, I guess he will keep the standouts in the upcoming exhos.
