Bit of an overstatement? He hasnt performed like an all star this season but he played a huge role for the Devils this season and I'm confident that without him the Devils would be fighting for the playoffs and may not even get in. As a 19 year old coming into the NHL playing the toughest position to transition from he has done a great job eating up minutes on a nightly basis. Not a disappointment in the slightest for me, just rookie mistakes that come with most rookies.

But I don't really think you can hold it against Niederreiter for being a disappointment. It's like forcing a high school kid to go to college before he's ready, then calling his grades a disappointment when he's clearly in over his head.

I'm probably arguing semantics, but for me a player has to actually be NHL-ready, but simply not produce as expected, to be a disappointment. With Niederreiter, he's just playing at a level he's obviously not ready for.
Pretty much this... I think a lot of people don't realise how young the guy is. He just turned 19 in September! Add that to the fact that power forwards tend to develop slow to begin with.

Seeing Larsson's name in here is completely bizarre to me. He is struggling a bit down the stretch, but for the majority of the season he has been phenomenal.

Lidstrom was LIDSTROM from the moment he stepped on an NHL ice surface. 60 point rookie season. In 1994-95 he was THE guy on the Red Wings blue line, which was winning 60 games the year after. I really like Larsson though, he's gonna be very good.

Nino has promise and he has looked much better the last few games. Nino should not be in the NHL at this time but I dont mind that he is. I never believe the whole bringing a player up too early deal anyways. Regardless he plays on the fourth line

Everything I've seen and heard of Kassian makes me think he'll be a good second line player.

His stats have been very impressive for a guy who does many other things on the ice. This was also his first year out of junior.

Came here to say that. Avalanche definitely should have drafted RNH. I have no idea why they took Landeskog instead.

Just because he hasn't panned out doesn't mean his initial expectations change at all.

Not sure if serious?

Larsson is 19, straight out of the SEL playing his first season on NHL ice. He is 2nd in points, 2nd in goals, 3rd in hits and 3rd in TOI/G among blueliners playing on a playoff squad.

What did you expect a 50pt rookie season from the dude? Give me a break..

As far as the preds are concerned I will throw Jon Blum out there, he looked so well poised out there last year, and this year he just hasn't looked the same.

I expected 60 points, 250 hits, 25 AVG/TOI, Calder Trophy, and Norris. I should have told you that in my original post.

I think I am detecting you being sarcastic then

I can see you wanting him to be a Calder Trophy candidate because that's reasonable to ask for, but everything else seems like your expectations were to high

Not every facet, just the most important ones

Larsson doesn't deserve any criticism for his rookie season. In fact, I'd say it was a pretty solid one. It's just that people had unrealistic expectations after the hundreds of posts about how Larsson was the most NHL ready and would be the best player in the draft. Defensemen take a while to develop.

If people read closely they would understand that I didn't expect him to do much but that he had a big role to fill and he failed miserably.

Obviously. RNH is better, younger and prettier and they already mailed him the Calder.

I expected more offensive production from Marcus Kruger, but he's done well in pretty much every other aspect of the game.

Niederreiter is far from disappointment considering that he's playing 4th line minutes like DSP. Just terrible by the coach for doing that, imo it ruins confidence.

For me has to be Tangradi. It was going to be a breakout season with all those talented centres. But for him and he's been trading teams also season for jr Pens to Adult Pens.

Well he was very good in elitserien, 0,50PPG and +21. I was expecting at least 40 points, he still have not reached it in 3 seasons.

So from 0,5 PPG in Elitserien to 0.5 PPG in the NHL in his rookie season? Those expectations are quite high I would say.
