Why are there skill players on the ice up by three goals with 90 seconds to go? Seems like HCDB made the right call.

Props to Englland for not pounding his on face. It was obvious if you've ever seen #5 fight.

Bylsma knew exactly what he was doing when he sent that line out. If you can't see that, there's not much I can do to help you.

That clean check by Vitale on Briere got things going. Another clean open ice hit leads to some fighting.

I would LOVE for a Pens fan to justify throwing out your 4th line during a 6-3 hockey game. We had Schenn-Briere-Simmonds out there, not some goods like you guys put out there. There was ZERO reason to go hurting other players at the end. Sorry. End of story.
There are all sorts of reasons and gooning it up isn't the only one.

You can send your 4th line out to rest your top line guys, you can send them out to protect your top line guys (freak injuries occur).

Or maybe even that has been the relative match up you have been using all game (the Bruins often use their 4th line in a checking capacity and they are often eating minutes towards the end of the game).

Please explain further this "context". Like putting skill players out with one minute left in a game you are winning by three goals?

Bylsma was trying to send a message and it appparently worked judging by the complete meltdown Laviolette suffered on the bench.

Not saying he was hit THIS HARD, but have you ever had whip lash? I've had both a concussion and whip lash (at the same time).

No matter how hard you're hit, if you were run into without being aware, that **** hurts like hell. It'll give you a head ache alright.

Hell, even if you've never had either, getting hit unaware like that will hurt like hell.

Again, not saying he was hit THAT HARD, but being hit like that ON PURPOSE and hit like that, you're going to be pissed off and react accordingly as well.

oh man. Engelland was our best defenseman all night. He is a hockey player that fought a lot about 18 months ago.

yes, they are never slashed, hit after the whitsle, held, crosschecked during the game

Good to know your super defensive 4th line was out there with a minute left when they didnt play for half the 3rd.

I know I'm probably the millionth person asking, but are there videos linking to the highlights of the game? Not just the NHL.com highlights, because I know they'll skip most of the physical stuff.

I wouldn't call any of them goons. Schenn is lucky Asham let up on him. Clean hit by Vitale. Saturday should be a fun game. This should be a great first round matchup.

True, that will be interesting to watch.

I'm sure we will hear something about the security behind the Flyers bench in Pittsburgh and probably even the other way in Philly during this series.

Engelland is a beast.

Briere proves he's even more of a ***** than he really is. Unless he was really hurt. Otherwise, ***** move. For skating off the ice and not being involved at all.

Rinaldo might get a fine for the obscene gesture to the fans.

How is Couturier missing all those teeth already ?

Schenn's crosscheck on Crosby didn't look like a dive for once. You're not expecting a crosscheck when you're not near the puck.

Isn't there more fun stuff ?

Either way, great work, Fel.

As I say, i'm not even mad but if you throw a hit like that at that point in the game then you take what you get.

Wasn't Rinaldo on the ice during that situation?

Talk about hypocrisy

You can see how the coaches argument started

laviolette grabs a player's stick and breaks it over the glass at the Pens bench (11 seconds in)

As a Pens fan I was not aware we had a goon line. The only player who even begins to fit that title is Asham. So this is all really hilarious and kind of pathetic. Vitale threw a great hit and the Flyers threw a hissy fit, there were some fights and it all kind of equals out to me. I don't understand why Laviolette was so upset specifically, the players all seemed to be having a good time, seemed practically on the verge of tears when he stepped back down. And I guess all the fans on here just followed suit.

I hope they meet in the POs. It will be awesome.
Not sure if you watched the game. Both sides played dirty, but the Penguins moreso. The Penguins were taking liberties all game. In part, the refs were the cause of it by not calling them. Grossman also got taken out with a knee to knee hit early in the game.

The hit on Briere was clean, but a lot was leading up to it. Hell, at one point a slash broke the stick clean and nothing was called on Pittsburgh, and that was after 2 other slashes within a 3 minute window.

The Flyers aren't going to stand around when our playoff cannon is getting run at 4 games before the playoffs, clean or not.

Schenn took a dirty chop at Crosby, no doubt.

The cleanliness of the hit isn't the complaint.

I'm sure it was to be a bit physical. The fact still remains: the Penguins didn't start the fighting, the Flyers did.

Pens get shown up in their own home. Again. And the fans resort to living in the past and talking about past victories when they just lost.
