Yup, Hartikainen will be penciled in to one of the top 2 lines all off season now and if he regresses at all and doesn't make the team out of camp or only plays 3rd/4th line minutes, it'll be one of many reasons our next coach will be run out of town.

God forbid we develop the 6th rounder.

I tend to give props to a player if they score one, two or any number of goals..

unless, of course, his name is Sam Gagner....in which case he better smarten the **** up.

Or it will because he has struggled with consistancy issues since coming over to NA. He seems to understand what he needs to do when paired with RNH and Eberle. Not hard to look good while playing with those two, hell even our perennial 40 point man had a 8 point game with Eberle.

I like Hartikainen and I did not mean to slight him with that post. I just find it funny that he is all of a sudden a guaranteed top 6 player all of a sudden when he has spent most of the year in the AHL and has been underwhelming for most of the season.

I'd love it if Hartikainen became the big body we need in the top 6. However, people seem to have written off MPS because of one poor sophomore season.

As long as Hart is getting minutes in the top 9, I'm happy. With the LW depth we have, he'll obviously bounce around next season, it's not a big deal.

I think I'd prefer Harti back in the AHL next year unless he plays well enough through our last 3 games and through training camp and preseason to show he will clearly be better than Smyth and Eager.

Some may laugh at that, but for most of the season, he hasn't been better than those two.

He should be one of the first callups to replace a winger that is injured, though, of course.

I just realized the three stars of the game were Selanne, Dubnyk and Visnovsky

Poor Harti!

I think because of the injury to Hall, Hartikainen is given a chance to play more in the top 6 role to see how he does. MPS is getting to play more in AHL to prime him for next year at the NHLl. He was not playing much up here and it definitely affected his confidence. MPS will definitely be a permanent fixture with the Oilers next season.

I guess Hemsky is resting his injured shoulders.

Do that to a Finn and you'll never see him in the NHL again. In my eyes, if Härski doesn't play well enough in the training camp and gets sent down I'm pretty sure he never gets his motivation back and heads back to Europe. That tends to happen with Finns.

It's all in his own hands though. If he plays well enough, he'll deserve the spot. If he doesn't... well we're happy to get him back to Finland.

Competition for spots is a good thing and I hope Harti can raise his game even further to be a lock for top 9 and compete for top 6.

MPS must be rolling in his watery grave.
1. Harti and PRV are apparently really good friends.
2. Why should PRV be rolling in his grave if Harti is able to raise the compete level of the Oilers?

I think that PRV is happy for Harti and the team and even though it is still way too early to draw any conclusions competition for spots is never bad. More often it makes the players try harder rather than discourage them.

Oh, and in the end I really doubt that PRV thinks he's a top 6 lock by any measure at this point. He is a smart kid and obviously knows that he didn't manage to make a good case for himself this year and that the only way to break in, Harti or no Harti, is too work hard and raise his game.

One last thing (and I didn't see the game).

I found it strange that the only player to score 2 goals (and the only guy to score for the winning team) and the GWG was not amongst the three stars of the night...What was that all about?

I think we should be worried that PRV is apparently in a grave somewhere.

I watched the game last night and they announced the 3 stars as
1 Dubnyk
2 Hartikainen
3 Getzlaf

That was on Sportsnet west.

first 5 games Jan. this year played wit 4th line 11MIN/GM 0G 0A -4

Last 7 games of the year played with gagner, hemsky, RNH, Eberle.
16:30 Min/GM 2G 3A +7

So when he plays with top 6 the last two years he 15GM 5G 5A +7

I think he has a spot next year.
Do i expect 25G 25A playing LW with RNH-Eberle. Yeah!

Edit: Eberle read your post??????????????
The 5 games he did not score. he played with eager.
