How's the view from the top of the fence?

If everybody only commented on proven facts, then this thread would be dormant, until the date of the actual draft.

Its been about 2 weeks and I miss watching the AAA minor midgets greatly. Very special crop of players the 96's are. What a JOY its been this year watching.

Depends if your a high pick and get good billet house. Also Erie is a nice little city and very blue collar town. The problem over there is the team itself. You have Mickey & Mouse running it and they are about as inept as you can find in this league now, Mavety stepped out of Kingston's GM spot so now Bassin is the last of the bad types.

He still runs that team like a joke and no matter who they draft it will remain a joke.

Most high end talent gets traded out of Erie unless you go back to the O'Reilly days or O'Marra.....oh wait he got traded too.....Saginaw for Torqauto

I still see the Soo taking Fabbri and playing it safe - they have to IMO as they cannot afford a bust of a pick, so my top 10 goes:
1. McDavid (Obviously...)
2. McKeown (Can't pass up on him at 2)
3. Cornel (Been the long time rumor for some time)
4. Fabbri (Safe Bet)
5. HoSang (Windsor gets lucky to get him here)
6. McCann or Dal Colle (Guelph is big on both and need some decent size up front. Another note of interest is Dal Colle is working with Guelph's skating coach Underhill, this summer - probably reading into this but...you never know)
7. Middleton (2nd best D-man, solid, safe pick)
8. Bennett (Great 2-way forward)
9. Hiddink/Bourne (I still see s team taking Hiddink earlier than he is currently ranked - high IQ with lots of upside)
10. Hargrave/Diperna (take your pick - both solid safe bets here)

Anyways, that's just my stab, I think there may be some surprises in this draft - looking forward to Saturday, should be great!

Personally I think OS takes Middleton, so Dal Colle should slide into the #8 spot IMO

Could Bourne really go before Hargrave? I think Hargrave brings alot more to a hockey team. I could see Bourne falling quite a bit.

Oshawa picks #7, apparently they want Middleton. #8 OS, No way Dal Colle goes there so he could end up at #11 to St Mikes because I can't see him going too far out of town. He would go to Oshawa if they do take him over Middleton.
Personally I would take him over Middleton.

No way Bourne over Hargrave. I don't love either but Bourne is soft.

I don't know how much weight the combine carries but I watched the Rebels play many times this year and I think both of those big boys are over rated. Neither of them did much when they played the top teams. Bourne played with 2 great players, Fabbri and Miller, they made him look a lot better. Evans made Hargrave look good, but at least he engages more.

So how are either still considered first rounders, given their trajectory has been down? Just because of their size, really?

That's what I think. David Miller blows them both out of the water but he is much smaller. Jake Evans is much more effective as well. They say you can't teach size.

Bourne and hargraves will be first rounders on merit alone. I have them going in the first round but i don't see them having any impact until maybe their 3rd years. I like bourne more then hargraves but personally i wouldn't want either in the first round. Two big men who didn't play like big men during the year; playing against real men next year and years to follow, I just don't see their impact or the upside.

If the history of the draft has shown anything about picking 16 year olds, it is that most will grow. Thanks.

P.S. I agree with you. Never really understood the hype, thought I was missing something.

Miller and Evans are both going to solid contributors in the OHL.

You say merit, don't you mean size?

agreed. As far as the Rebels players. The 6 D over the course of time will contribute more to a team then Fabbri, bourne, hargraves, herbst....imo. Fabbri is a great player and his heart you can't question. I just see him as being an average ohl producer. I have a feeling too many people translate the play of players in their MM years to their play during their ohl years. It's the same as ppl don't understand why top point producers in the O don't get a sniff in the nhl.
