what a homer post. I've been watching Oshie since before he made the NHL.

He's a good role player. Let's leave it at that. Not everyone needs to have their tires pumped (no, luongo)

Oshie has more offensive skills than Backes. He just has missed a lot of NHL games in his few seasons. He still hasn't put it all together. He's very good defensively, a dynamo of constant movement, plays a great physical game. His offensive game (passing, shooting) will improve, especially if he plays consistently with the same linemates. He's been shuffled drastically ALL his NHL career. He's lucky if he can even remember the names of his linemates.

Next season, with same linemates most of the time, I think he'll score 65-70 points.

Backes is bigger, but Callahan is more agile.
Callahan has as many points in less games.
He might be, but not by much. Callahan isa top 10 defensive player in the league.
Again, he might be (even though Callahan has more hits and blocks in less games), but not by much

Pretty even and I really think it may come down to people voting for who they see more often. Although, I'm voting Backes because I like the grit he brings.

Maybe our definition of role players differs, but a player that is 25 and averaging more than .65 PPGs is more than a role player in my book.

Also, if the US Olympic roster is assembled similar to the way it was last time, why would a very talented role-player NOT make the roster?

Maybe he meant that Oshie used to be a "roll" player....

Which is true, and I understand he was pretty good.

I've seen the Blues quite a lot the last few years because of Kariya and McDonald playing there and David Backes is becoming the most overrated player on HFboards.

With that being said, I'd rather have Backes on my team because I value good depth at center higher than at wing, but it's a lot closer than the poll would suggest.

I would prefer Backes for the Habs because of his size. I do like Callahan but Backes is a better fit.

I'd prefer Callahan but maybe because we already have a #1C, and a revolving door of players on one of his wings.
