Who else was injured on defense to enable this emergency call up?
Corey Potter is out with a concussion after being hit by Bobby Ryan. He finished the game too...it's kind of sad the whole "get hit in the head and sit in the quiet room for 15 minutes" thing is out the window already. So many players have been hit in the head and then played a shift or two only to develop symptoms (Sedin, Peckham, Potter, Toews).

Bah, if this means I have to make an other mustached face for GDT, I'll be mildly annoyed.

Yeah it's quite stupid. But let's be happy that our players who aren't hitting the quiet room are Peckham and Potter instead of a Sedin or Toews. At the same rate it's probably bound to happen sooner or later.

Where did you hear he has a concussion? I wonder if there is any news on a possible suspension to Bobby Ryan for the head shot.

Mark Spector Tweeted it about a half hour ago:

#Oilers C.Potter takes head shot from B.Ryan, plays rest of game (21 shifts). Now, out tonight w/concussion.

I didn't catch the game and can't find a video of the hit. What kind of play was it?

Potter was skating up the side boards trying to play the puck and Bobby Ryan hit him. Drove his arms up into Potters head. It was about as clear cut a headshot as it gets imo.

Wow I didn't realize our man game lost to injury was still at 231 for this season. I guess it is juiced a bit.

This number does not include Fedun missing the whole season either.

so the actual value currently is 310

I think one of the problems is that players aren't concussed right away. So many times guys feel fine right after the hit, even the next few days, then one day they wake up and don't feel well.

I don't know that there will ever be a solution to this problem. Is the NHL or any sport for that matter going to make it mandatory that guys wait a week before playing again?

Yeah I never thought about that, good point. I know there are far more pressing and relevant health issues out there in the world but it's unfortunate even with everything we have and know about modern medicine that brain injuries are still such a mystery.

Yeah but that's what I mean the number is a bit juiced. Like Cam Barkers injury, who cares. Theo staying on the IR even though reports suggested he had long since been ready to return. Corey Potter missing 12 games, oh well. Alex Plante for 9 games, O'Marra for 1. Alot of it adds up to pretty insignificant stuff. Khabby being injured while DD was playing great. I'd say there's about 100 games or so that are pretty insignificant.

Pretty cavalier attitude about someone else's health IMO, is that you Dr. Recchi?

It evens out, though. A lot of those games were very significant. Hall, Eberle, RNH, Hemsky. Whitney, too. Heck, the good Whitney has yet to return and maybe never will.

The new NHL is kill or be killed, free for all, ending a career = 5 game suspension, ignore the rules reffing and random suspension Shanny as long as it is less than 5 games. The next few years are going to be fun as Hall, RNH and Ebs each sustain significant injuries from 'rats' who face no consequences. Get used to it ... "There Will Be Blood".

Sure thing coach, I worked out a couple of imposed rest mechanisms in last night's game.

I actully wouldn't mind it, if it was clear to everyone that's what the rules are. Particullarly Oiler management who knows we have an under sized team ... Perhaps they will wake up and start aquiring some skilled size instead of skilled smurfs.

The Pitt's - Phil series is going to be a death match! I can't wait ... Both teams are going to lose that series. Watch Cooke revert to his old self.
