Eh? I'm not doubting Kimmo's abilities to be a C, but Koivu has already been a captain at NHL level twice as long (2,5+Wild's captain for the month crap before that>1) as Timonen was with the Preds. Add to that, he was the captain of WC-Gold winning team last spring.

I feel that if Lidstrom and Alfie are gone, Timonen will be the msot respected member of that team. Also, he's basically captaining the Flyers this year in Pronger's absence. If Kimmo talks, the Fins will listen.
Also, as far as North America is concerned, I feel that Iginla not only should be captain, but he deserves his shot. His As, pretty much without question are Toews, Crosby, and Weber.
America has got tons of leadership on their team. I notice a lot of people picking Callahan, but is he really ANY different at all than Backes? Besides that Backes is bigger? Either way, one of these two is Captain, and I guarentee it. I vote for Backes. Also, the As should be 2 forwards and 2 defensemen. So I think the obvious As are Callahan and Parise at forward. On defense, Suter is the obvious choice for the A, but I give the other one to Jack Johnson. He captained the USA team in the 2010 World Championships so he clearly has leadership skills.
C- Backes
A - Callahan
A - Parise
A - Suter
A - J. Johnson
I think that's some pretty fantastic leadership for the Yanks.

And besides the head of the Finnish hockey federation Kalervo Kummola has already stated that Mikko Koivu will be the captain of the national team after Saku retires.
Granlund will be 21 by the time of Olympics and Finland always goes with the veterans on captaincy so he has no chance.
Well, not exactly. Saku was 23 when he was made the staple captain of Team Finland.
The thing some posters obviously don't understand about Finland is that here the captaincy is sort of a line-of-succession sort of thing. While other players can carry the C if one man is preoccupied, there still is this one player who's pretty much named the current captain as much as the whole player pool is concerned.
In the era of modern hockey, ca. 1990 onwards, Finland has had three staple captains. First Timo Jutila, and after him Saku Koivu. Saku stepped down after Vancouver, and his brother Mikko was named as his successor. So if he is healthy, he WILL carry the C for Finland in Sochi. You can stop with the Timonen calls now.
Kimmo is a good call for an alternate though, if he still plays. The other one I see going to Tuomo Ruutu.

You've got the teams mixed up. Alfie&Lids are swedish.

Well, that's pretty much end of discussion then. If iron chancellor Kummola says it, it shall happen. Period.
I love Backes, Callahan, and Jack Johnson as well....I just cant see Brown and Kesler not wearing a letter on their chest in 2014 imo.
Why when Kesler not the C for his team? I'm really suprised how many people picked it him to be captian and brown there was character issues in la this year( I herd at least) I don't see ether getting letters over Backes ,Callahan, Zach and Suter

with Brown I heard its because of him not being a vocal enough leader not character issues...but those closer might know better...
its not Keslers fault he isnt a captain in Vancouver...dudes have been there longer then him.
Brown is a captain in LA and has been for a while now. not sure Callahan makes it as captain when he is one of the guys fighting for a spot on the team.
Both Kovalchuk and Overchkin will be "A"s. They are not captain material.
Morozov will most likely be captain.
Morozov will most likely not make the team.
I'd say that Kovalchuk is the obvious choice for captain, but I'm not necessarily sure that Bilyaletdinov would agree with me.

Agreed.
Dont get the hate with Kovalchuck. This guy has matured a lot, and he always brings it

Kesler could be wearing the C for Vancouver. He's a good choice but the team went for Henrik Sedin. A lot of Nuck fans were upset at the time because Kesler is more vocal, and Henrik is more lead by example.
Other than the diving, Kesler usually plays with his heart on his sleeve. I'm not sure if Kesler will be getting the C but I think he will be looked at and will probably wear the "A."
