Granted, it's not a given either way, but it has to be considered.

there's pro's and cons. I think you definitly get them practicing and give em a look, but i don't think you play em unless your sure they won't be a liability.

I think you are underestimating Scheifele and Telegin Grind. Those guys will step in and be valuable players for St. John's down the stretch, IMO. It is a very very common thing to see junior players jump in the AHL rosters late in the season like this, and I think both would be key players down there.

Melchiori on the other hand, I am not so sure that he will be able to find a spot on that blueline. I don't see him bumping Postma, Kulda, DeSantis, Ramsay, Festerling, Ramsay, Redmond, Negrin right now. He might go to Colorado to get some pro icetime down the stretch.

Oh i believe they will be able to step in and help out, i'm just saying that it shouldn't be the case with all prospects, and that there is the possibility of a downside.

Behena from Scheifele - 2-2 at the end of the 2nd. Nice slap-pass from Scheifele, and Behena buries it from the top of the slot on a one timer. 2A for Scheifele so far tonight.

Nice to see Mark shake off the injury from last game. He is putting up decent numbers this series.

For sure! He's drawn some penalties tonight too - VERY chippy game. In a between periods interview, a St Michaels Major player (can't remember his name at the moment) very bluntly stated that Scheifele dove on the crosschecking call he drew. Fights, big hits - these teams do NOT like each other.

You can always listen to the Majors radio broadcast. Unfortunately the Colts don't have their own radio broadcasts.

Barrie wins in 1st ovetime, 3-2. Behena to Camara on a 2 on 1, nice pass by Behena, Camara buries it. Majors are out, Barrie moves to the next round.

Great game!

So maybe no Melchiori for the Caps, but what about Austen Brassard?

What's the story on Colin Behenna? Would he be worth a try-out?

Unless the Jets sign Austen to an NHL contract, he can't play for the IceCaps this season. According to the AHL clear day rules...

"Teams may also add signed draft choices and players signed to amateur tryout contracts, provided that their respective junior or college seasons are complete."

$ - This player is under contract (AHL/ECHL are assumed as under contract)
Rheged, you probably need to put a $ next to Schief. Remember, the Jets signed him to a ELC on October 3 so that he could play those 7 regular season games at the beginning of the year.

No, the IceCaps can just sign him to an ATO (Amateur Tryout Contract) as it states in your quote. Jets have no obligation to sign him, he just signs an ATO with St. John's and he is eligible for their playoffs.

Didn't think a NHL club (or their AHL affiliate) could sign one of their unsigned draft picks to a ATO, only to a ELC. But if you say so, I'll believe you.

Yep, both NHL and AHL teams can. The NHL has many many more restrictions on it. Brayden Schenn did in 09-10 with the Kings, he had no contract and signed a one game ATO. Alexander Pechursky did a few years ago as well with Pittsburgh. Those are one game contracts.

Prospects often sign ATO's with AHL clubs. Will O'Neill is currently on one, his NHL deal does not start until after the season. If he did not have an ATO he would be unable to play for St. John's this year.Scott Parse a few years was signed an ATO with Grand Rapids rather than Manchester following his college season when he was a Kings prospect and it cause an uproar, most thought Parse would leave the organization at that point. Eric O'Dell signed an ATO to be a part of the Chicago Wolves for the 09-10 stretch run while he was a ATL prospect, did not sign and ELC until that off-season. Off the top of my head I can't think of any other examples of unsigned players signing an ATO, but it does happen quite often

On a different note.

As you may know TNSE sold almost 5000 ST for the 2011-2012 AHL season. A couple of weeks ago they started the renewal process, allowing STH to add more seats. The response was very good from what I hear.

For this season they sold 10 game packages, and I bought one, (added 1/2 dozen other games as well). "Game day" tickets have generally been gone a few weeks in advance.

Anyway last weekend they contacted people who had bought the 10 game packs and asked if they wanted ST for next season. I put a deposit down on two. I probably be in one of the ends where the tickets are $23 or $1023.72 fees in per seat for the season

They also contacted select 10 game pack holders to see if they wanted seats for the playoffs, I was not contacted via e-mail, but yesterday I was called and offered two.

Cost was about $950 for two, if the Caps are bounced early, the balance of the value goes towards next years ST.

Most people think that the playoffs are going to be a hard ticket to get.

A lot of people I talk to think that Mile One will be pretty close to filled with STH next season.

Ouch, hopefully once the Jets season is over Cormier and Machacek can join the Ice Caps, and some of the other guys can get healthy.

It would be great for the Ice Caps to go on a run.

Also, here is a blurb in the article regarding Melchiori:

"Defenceman Julian Melichiori, who almost made the IceCaps out of training camp, is set to hook up with the team sometime this week. The six-foot-four, 210-pound Melichiori had two goals, 31 assists and 64 penalty minutes in a 2011-12 Ontario Hockey League season split between the Kitchener Rangers and Oshawa Generals, who were bounced from the OHL playoffs over the weekend, The 21-year-old Meichiori recently signed an entry-level deal with the Jets."

Didn't know he almost made the Ice Caps out of camp. Good to hear.
