Predictions for the Finland vs. Sweden game

Well we all know that Saku got the match he wanted, but how will his team fair against Mats' team? Classic Finland against Sweden rivalry, classic Koivu vs. Sundin Match-Up which should be nothing less entertaining than a Habs vs Leafs game.

Question is, Who gets the gold?

Somewhat of a biased poll (23 to 1, as of this post, for the Finns - aka Saku) being on the MTL Board.... haha

When pitting Habs vs Leafs in any aspect (on this board) I'd be sad to see Toronto win out. I, of course, voted with the Finns as I feel their overall team concept has been bought by their players - hook, line, and sinker. Although the Swedes have impressed as of late... Should be a great game to watch on Sunday!

Let's just hope that all of Montreal's Olympians come back to North America rejuvenated and ready to play "Olympic" style hockey the rest of the season and well into the playoffs... after all, we have our very own "gold medal" waiting to battle for -- Lord Stanley!

Silly question ... Finland, with Ville Peltonen scoring game winner as usual.

I love the parallel.

Montreal - Toronto rivalry, Finland - Sweden rivalry.
In both cases, we pit Captain Koivu against Captain Sundin.

Captain Koivu wins just because it sounds a whole lot better than Captain Sundin.

Seriously though, if the Fins continue to play as they have all tournament (with maybe the exception of a mini-letdown vs. the Americans), and Niittymaki keeps it together, they should be able to win it! I'll be cheering for them!

No team has been able to slove the team Finland defence.
Team Finland has come together better than any other team so far.
The Finland trap, the Finland counter punch on turnovers and the Finland power play have so far NOT BEEN SOLVED.

The Russians tried to skate and bring the puck over the blue line ( no shoot in's) it did not work and caused a ton of turnovers and counter attacks.

Will team Sweden figure a way to get through the trap?
Will team Sweden try the hitting game?
Will team Sweden develope a way to stop Finland's counter punch offence? ( it's been working realy well )

The players on both team are well matched so it's up to the Sweden coaching staff to pick the right tactic for this one game faceoff. Finland won't change it's game plan so Sweden knows exactly what to expect.

Being the Gold medal game, I expect both teams to play a completly defencive game until the first goal is scored.

This won't be a 6-0 game, it's a 2-1 game in the making, but for who?

My heart in with Finland but my fear is this, Finland has had NO GOAL scored against them due to a redirect off someone in front.
What might be concidered a lucky goal, off a foot, off a stick, off something and in the net.

7 games. a ton of shots but not one redirect goal, how long can this last?

I doubt my own ability to predict this one. I didn't think Finland would beat Russia, Sweden beat the Czechs, or the Czechs beat Russia. I especially din't think the Russians would be shut out by the Finns and the Czechs, considering their firepower.

Finns, no doubt. They're on fire and they hate the Swedes worse than they hate the Russians (according to my Finnish friend Timo).
