What's important for us NOW, is the 2007 draft. We still (and hopefully will keep) these two young men for a while.

Not even close. Picking a bust 1st overall is the worst. Picking a bust at 16th overall happens rather often. Even in the very highly regarded 2003 draft, the 16th pick was a bust (Steve Bernier).
Imagine we would have picked up Denis Savard that draft insead of Wickenheiser ??
Chris Chelios would have retired only a few years ago. The dreadful late 90's-early 00's wouldn't of been that bad with a stalwart like Chelios on the backend.
I can't believe it's been already 5 years since we drafted Pacioretty. It feels like yesterday I was listening to the radio with everybody whining on why we didnt take Perron instead.

I picked 2007. McDonagh, Subban and Pacioretty should be core players. That is either first line winger or first pairing d-man. The only one of this caliber from '98 would be Markov. Never really like Riberio that much. Ryder was so-so. Beauchemin didn't like but seen him mostly when he was with the Leafs.
1998 has 2 top 6 forwards (Ryder & Ribeiro) & 2 top 2 defencemen. 2007 has one 1st line forward (Patches), 2 top 2 defencemen & one PP specialist/6th defenceman. I'd still give it to 1998, but it's getting closer all the time.
1998 looks better for now. Who says that the Habs couldn't find some gems...but going forward I think the 4 from 2007 will have a greater impact.

Its not because you don't like a player that he isn't very productive... It won't be easy surpassing his numbers.

The medical staff didn't factor in Chelios' insane tolerance to pain. He was able to play well on that bad knee.
What sucks about 98 is we just picked the wrong Rempart.
Each time I see Éric Chouinard's name, I want to cry!
I worked with a former player from the Q and he told me that every player knew, without a doubt, that Simon Gagné was a better choice than Éric Chouinard. He told me that Chouinard had major attitude issues.
I voted 1998 nonetheless. However if the next draft is as good as 2007, I would be a happy fan.
PS on second thought, each time I see Ryan McDonagh's name, I also want to cry!
