Edit: Just going through your posts here, and nice try. Non-Leaf fans don't post in threads only involving Leafs. "Jeff Carter to TO" " Burke to meet Howson in NY" "Ducks ready to deal" Yup, uh huh.
My username is simply my name given to me at birth. It surely doesn't cry "Leafs fan"

Really? It sure does. "Luke" and a badly spelled version of Kulmein. Which team are you a fan of then? Your a fan of another team who posts on the Leafs board, in Leaf threads, and creates Leafs threads just for a laugh?

Not happening.... Move along kid. Ps Phaneuf is like Byfuglien except Byfuglien is a better offensive player and Phaneuf gladly takes sloppy seconds

Bernier isn't even putting up pretty numbers playing for a top defensive team, no way the Leafs are going to give up that much for him, that 1st could end up being a lottery pick, would much rather sign Harding in the offseason.

Haha this is a pretty funny exchange.

I don't know about how I feel giving up Stastny in the first deal, but I'm not as big a Phaneuf-hater as some... I think you make him a #2 D with Erik Johnson in a town without much of a spotlight, and he could be quite a bit more effective. Currently the cap isn't an issue either, though I'm not sure off-hand how many more years Phaneuf is signed for.

A lot of deadweight to get rid of in T.O.

Komi - 4.5 million cap hit for two more years...yikes. Burke
Phaneuf - 6.5 million cap hit for two more years. About 2 million over-paid.
Lombardi - 3.5 million cap hit for one more year. Burke
Connolly - 4.75 million cap hit for one more year. Burke
JM Liles - 3.875 million cap hit for four more years. Burke

Leafs have around $58 million committed to salary next year, very little wiggle room. No team is going to trade for these players with their current salaries and NTC's.

Gaustad for 2.8m a year is crazy

I also think Kulemin will want more than 2.8

Sweet, we go from a young unproven goalie tandem to... a young unproven goalie tandem.

This is a bad retool.

The best way to retool the Leafs to is watch the Marlies playoffs, evaluate the players and see if Kadri, Colborne, Ashton, and Holzer could play on the big club the next year.

If they can you get rid of Komi, Lombardi, Connolly, Armstrong, Liles and maybe even Lupul however you can.

The issue is the total lack of veteran leadership on the team. So not only do you have to clear this logjam, you need to bring in guys like Arnott or dare I say Saku Koivu to kind of mentor the kids.

Only going to defend Phaneuf and Lombardi.

Phaneuf is still an effective point producer.

Lombardi is on his first season back from a potential career ending concussion, missed the offseason completely and just kinda wandered onto the team after not playing for a complete season. I'd give him another year before saying he's complete garbage. That said if people want him I could see Toronto tossing him simply because there' s alot of people knocking on the door from the Marlies.

3.8 million for Liles is a good deal when you look at similar players and their contracts.. he would have easily got 4 million on the open market

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA has to be one of the worst trades ive seen in a long time.

You want to give up a NHL ready #7 overall pick in kadri, a top4 dman who took a discount to stay and was on pace for 60pts, and another first rounder for a 3rd liner and MAYBE a solid goaltender?
You talk like Kadri is some type of sure thing and Bernier is a big question mark. Kadri is so "NHL ready" that he cant crack one of the worst rosters in the NHL.

The question is simple: does Burke believe in the core? If so, then he'll build around it obviously and hope things gel. If not...you're in deep trouble.

No its not entirely that, they dont have any center depth. And Kadri and Colborne are not leading you to any promise land.

How's about one of Reimer or Scrivens and Schenn to Edmonton for Khabibulin and Gagne and leave it at that?

Reimer & Schenn

for

Khabibulin and Gagne

Edmonton gets a solid and young blueliner they can use and have Reimer backup Dubnyk playing a good number of games.

Toronto gets an experienced goalie on a decent contract as well as a young top6 forward.

If you buyout/waive, Connolly & Lombardi. Good luck ever getting another free agent to sign in TO.

Trade Luke Schenn and the Leafs' second round draft pick of 2012 to the St. Louis Blues for Chris Stewart.

Waive Matthew Lombardi

Joffrey Lupul - Paul Stastny - Phil Kessel
Clarke MacArthur - Mikhail Grabovski - Chris Stewart
Nikolai Kulemin - Paul Gaustad - Colby Armstrong/Matt Frattin
Mike Brown - David Steckel - Kyle Clifford

Matt Carle - Carl Gunnarsson
Justin Schultz - Jake Gardiner
Cody Franson - Mike Komisarek/Kent Huskins

Jonathan Bernier
James Reimer
Dion Phaneuf & tyler bozak for a 2nd and .03 ppg increase in the top line center possition... your off your rocker my friend.

a 22 year old under achieving dman + 35 overal for a 26 year old under achieving forward? I mean i dont get it. Schenn has 21 points this season and stewart has 29... is an additional 8 points and a lesser amount of physicality worth the 35th overal pick?

Dont even want to comment on the leafs kings trade. Lets wait 3 years and finally have our prospect ready to go, just to trade him for some more projects?
