Funny how he was a plug his whole career yet he is calling out people who have more talent in their little toe. Reminds me of the utter failure that is don cherry. If the NHL wasn't a total bush league neither would have any air time.
Everyone complains that sports figures use cliche statements to describe their respective sport; Milbury does not do this. I, for one, wish there were more media people who told off teams and were not scared of the backlash. It would make for a more exciting sport.
Listen, we love a sport that will never be embraced by the majority of US citizens because of its very nature, so don't water it down cow-towing to them. Canadians, I know you love this game enough that Milbury does not turn you off; he drives you to message boards/news papers/TV station websites to voice your displease. Taken together, he is good for ratings. With that fact, Milbury forever has a job covering this game. He was with NESN last year (I am sure you all have an option of the Bruins coverage) and went national because of how he was on NESN. As dumb as you think he is, he knows this, so he acts in the same way that got him that promotion: divisive. That is Mike Milbury, that will be Mike Milbury, and it is why I love that silly man.
My only guess is that he works cheap. Over the seasons I've gotten pretty good at hitting the mute button as soon as I hear his voice. I do the same for Pierre and Tripp Tracy. I avoid the intermissions by either going to another game or watching Metalocalypse. There have been some college games where he's in the booth. On those nights I just kill the sound and play music.
I personally like watching Milbury. He's entertaining and isn't afraid to state his opinion.
Me too. He says some stupid things, but then again so does much of the media. At least he's not trying to sugar coat or make nice with his words. He's going to say what he believes, rest of the world be damned.
Milbury, the GM, was a terrible person with regards to building teams. Milbury, the coach, was one of the best coaches in the game and managed to get a lot out of a Bruins team that really had no business being as good as they were. Fact is, the guy is a good hockey person with regards to the coaching end. His personnel moves left a lot to be desired. I like Milbury because he is a bit of a loose cannon. The problem with hockey is that people with personalities are often frowned upon because they tell it like it is. As we all know, that's a no no in the NHL because they want everyone to give the same scripted answers each and every time a question comes up.

The lack of political correctness is refreshing.
This. Though I totally disagree with what he said about Crosby & Disco Dan, I do enjoy his take on things & am highly entertained by him.
One of the few times I agreed with Milbury. Crosby needed to fight his own battle with Schenn, and Bylsma should not have hid behind Granato like a girl.
Funny, I saw one coach acting like a man, an adult. I saw another acting like a child, screaming and breaking a stick.
My son does those things when he doesn't get his way.
Could you IMAGINE if he clawed his way to another General Management position?!
"Im here today, to announce that the New York Islanders have brought home one of their brightest sons. A stalwart on defense. We have traded John tavares and our 1st rd pick to Toronto for Mike Komisarek"

The NHL is a better place when Milbury is a GM somewhere...
From wikipedia...
"Milbury has also been criticized for the many decisions he made in which payroll or orders for upper management were not factors. Many young players and prospects that Milbury traded away went on to have distinguished careers, often eclipsing those of the players he received in return. He has traded away defensemen Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Bryan Berard, Eric Brewer, Darius Kasparaitis, and Bryan McCabe; goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Tommy Salo, as well as forwards Olli Jokinen, Todd Bertuzzi, Tim Connolly, and Raffi Torres. Milbury has also come under fire for his draft day decisions such as choosing Rick DiPietro first overall in 2000 over Dany Heatley and Marian Gaborik; as well as his decision to include the 2001 second overall draft pick (Jason Spezza) as part of the Alexei Yashin trade."
For whatever reason, the horrible team executives seem to do well in tv just like many bad players. Keith Jones, Pierre, the ******** on NHL network like Kelly Chase and the worst ever in my opinion Jame McLennan. I cant stand this guys face.

Yeah right... Crosby should go fight some borderline NHLer after he gets crosschecked from behind. Great idea.
The Flyers want it to become a WWE style series. That's the only way they win it. Laviolette knows this and is doing his best to heat it up as much as he can. Bylsma was absolutely right not to get involved with this silliness. Just too bad he couldn't get his assistant to not play along too.
The Pens need to ignore this sideshow and go out and play hockey. The Flyers want it to be a goonshow because it plays to their strengths. Bylsma should ensure that the next game is as quiet as possible and just go and play hockey. Getting involved in this soap opera doesn't help them at all.

He kind of represents where TV is going. Every reality tv show out there is about embarrassing people. Mike embarrasses himself and the game of hockey all the time.
"Hey look at me! I'm a clown!" Happens on the Amazing Race, Survivor, Fear Factor... welcome to the 21st century. When you get to the point where eating worms on live TV is entertainment, it's not surprising in the least that pundits are going to be screaming outrageous things to get your attention.

Is he? Maybe he is. He's got hockey fans talking about what a moron he is so from that perspective I guess he's doing really well.
How many non-hockey fans does he alienate from watching the game though? I don't mind Milbury's sideshow most of the time but when he comes out with this kind of crap he might as well just do the segment inside a cave and use cave drawings to illustrate his points.

Great personality, great TV presence, says funny things. Some of them are stupid, some I agree with... he's exactly what I want in a TV guy. Blows all the other guys out of the water.
