Lol. Imagine Avery, Komisarek and Phaneuf all on the same team. 2 of them used to date Elisha Cuthbert and Dion still does. Heck of a locker room we'd have then!
He could be effective riding shotgun on the fourth line with Steckel & Brown next year IMO. It'd save us from having to try to fill that hole by way of free agency and potentially overpaying for a guy like Winnik.
Burke says alot of things. It's time he puts up or shuts up
What are you saying? I am not going to get in a Burke arguement with you but related to this point, he doesn't like rats so he would/has never sign/ed a rat.

If The League has taught me anything, it's that knowing your eskimo brothers is only a good thing.
If Komarov is like Marchand in any way, that could be good for us. However, I am a little bit indifferent with all the depth moves like signing Carrick, Abbott, etc. Like realistically, will all these "smallish third line guys" make any contribution greater than Bozak and MacArthur as 'pretty decent' NHLers? It's like the Leafs have turned into a Matt Stajan factory with a bit more skill or grit depending on the model type.
So you don't see the point of having prospects in our system unless they are going to be potential top liners?
I never understood why we never went after a guy like Konopka when he was a ufa. Can skate pretty good, super pest and can drop the gloves. He would be a perfect 3rd or more like 4th line centre. Sorry...Lombardi is not the guy we need there.
Sounds like a Konopka type player with maybe a BIT more scoring touch?
I'd welcome any player who would wear the Leaf on their chest proudly and play with heart and soul everynight...lord knows we only have a couple guys that do that right now.
He could have signed him two years ago. The fact is Leafs have zero character, if you think about it and besides the weak goaltending they got that really hurt them down the stretch. No guys that want to make it hard for the other team, team that successfull need guys that want to piss the other team off with there skill and than top it off with knocking them down. Its not all about skill in this league. The leaf grinders like Rosehill are useless and not even close to what guys like Cooke or Avery should i say offer to a team. Armstrong started the first couple games of the seasonw well and with injuries became quite useless, and he is the only guy that when he want playing at a higher level can be thrown in the mix of toughness, character and skill. Its funny this is what Burke MO is but yet they have the most mellow team on planet earth.
Army, Brown, are both guys that pay the price physically. Both good signings, in theory...Avery would put us from zero character to integers. He's a coward and a dirtbag, and those are the best parts...
Prior to 2005, NHL teams retained the rights to European draftees until they turned 31 (Emelin, was example, was drafted in 2004 and the Habs retained his rights).
Komarov was drafted in 2006, so yes, they had 2 years to sign him.
PS: In case no one else mentioned it, Komarov is not a Finnish-sounding name. So I checked, and he's a dual national, Finnish and Russian, born in Estonia while it was still part of the USSR.

Technically, the annexation of Estonia was never recognized by any NATO nation, including Canada. It was, and is still viewed today, as an illegal occupation.

Konopka is good for only 9-10minutes a game. He's the last guy we need unless we're absolutely decimated at the center position.
As for Komarov, he really stood out to me during the WC. That said, the marlies roster is starting to fill up with solid talent. It would take alot of things to go just right for him to come back imo.

You just stated that Sean Avery would bring CHARACTER to this hockey club??
You either need to check the old Websters, or need therapy as much ad he does... We need the OPPOSITE of Sean Avery.
who cares how big or small he is or where hes from. He sounds similar to Brown, similar size, but more of a pest. Nothing to lose by giving him a try, unless people think our bottom 6 is good enough. which for the record...i do not.
