I think, obviously, that this is going to boil down to who we have in charge here next season. Some coaches see things one way, others, a different way. (I know, groundbreaking observation).
The thing that brought this question to the forefront to me has been RJ's play of late. I think he's realizing he could be the Captain of an NHL team if he still has some gas in the tank. Isn't he who we all wanted to be the captain each of the previous 3 years? I feel like his resurgence is an audition tape.
Anyways, he gets my vote. But, I agree, it should be JMFJ.
1. Prospal - he will represent the change the organization wants. He's the bridge to the new era
2. Jack Johnson - Has the compete and the desire one would want from their captain. Brings it every night. There will never be threads about him taking nights off like Nash.
3. James Wisniewski (wildcard pick) - He's like Johnson with the fire and the compete, but I think he's also more vocal. Maybe a more vocal leader is what they need after Mr. Strong and Silent is gone. However, there's the penalties and suspensions that hurt his case, I think .

Hilarious.... no way Nash is captain next year... this is why prospal resigned with us (my guess), to be captain, and Nash saw writing on wall and wanted out.
My preference would be Jack Johnson, but that will probably happen after prospal
Knowledge of personality dynamics would lead me to a specific choice, but in the absence of having such info, then I'd go with JJ followed very closely by Dorsett.

Whats hilarious is that you think Nash asked to be traded because Prospal was resigned.
Prospal is the conservative and safe choice. Next year he will lead adequately and earnestly. Let Jack Johnson take it from him in a year or two. I really do not feel comfortable the way so many are banking the entire team and future on Johnson. No player can live up to that much hero worship.
I want Johnson to provide stability and consistency of defense. I want Umberger back to his fiery and spirited ways. I want Dorsett to be the agitator throwing other teams off their game. I want Prospal to offer focus and emotional calm to keep the mental and emotional flightiness to a minimum.

Guess i missed the behind the scenes episode where we were brought up to speed as to what actually transpired. I know many were quite shocked that Prospal resigned with us, and then we were made aware that Prospal would go to the management side once he does retire. Then we find out Nash wants traded, in his words to help the bluejackets rebuild faster :shake head. Just a theory, but maybe management, thru the wisdom of Patrick coming on board, realized this team would never go anywhere with Nash as captain. (A captain that clearly only brings it on certain nights, then other nights goes thru the motions. Maybe they realized he is the culture problem.

Maybe Patrick is actually a plant from the MiB and it turns out that Rick Nash is a diabetic alien attempting to amass enough wealth to take over the planet. The diabetes explains why he performs differently night to night and the alien part explains why we're looking to trade him.
I agree with the Prospal or Jack Johnson sentiment.
5 years or so from now, maybe Jenner? He's a hard working, character kid who plays a 2-way game and is the captain of Oshawa this year. Long way off I know but I prefer to think about the Jackets in 5 years, not the ones now.

So you missed the 'behind the scenes' yet you have a rather involved theory of your own that you buy wholeheartedly?
This idea of yours is from deep, deep left field, IMO. Sounds like something out of a reality show more than actual reality.
Until Rick Nash is traded, he is my captain. Just because of what has been said now doesn't mean that key offseason changes softens stances and gets things mended. (Look at Kobe Bryant for a higher-profile case of that.)
Now, if you say, "Pretend Rick Nash doesn't exist," then I would go with JMFJ.
Normally 'ding ding ding' means the answer is right. In this case? Nope.
Why you two would even want Nash as captain is beyond me, when he's never even been a good captain, ever.
