Florida was never truly within reach. They have to lose this one and their next 2, and that wasn't likely to happen. I figured they might lose 2, but three would be pushing it.
We want Winnipeg to win just to give Florida something to play for against Washington.
The best part is the Caps have to go all out in regulation if they want a shot at the division.
The Sabres HAVE to beat Philly on Thursday first and foremost.
Then we have the following scenarios:
Florida wins in regulation: We can no longer catch Florida, but 1 point against Boston would clinch (or the Rags beating the Caps in any fashion)
Florida wins in OT: We can no longer catch Florida and now would need 2 points to clinch in Boston (or the Rags beating the Caps in regulation, or we get 1 point and the Rags beat them in any fashion)
Washington wins in OT: The dreaded scenario. We can no longer catch Florida, and we need to get more points against Boston than the Caps get against the Rangers)
Washington wins in regulation: Now we have more scenarios, but still need help. We either get more points against Boston than Washington gets against the Rangers, OR we beat Boston and Florida loses in regulation against Carolina).
Best scenario is IMO Florida wins in regulation. Even though they clinch, then at least we control our own destiny if we beat Philly.

Yes, this is the call... we have been chasing Washington for a month and they got lucky with TWO shootout wins in their last three games. If we beat Philly and Florida beats Washington in REGULATION we control our destiny...

Regulation doesn't matter if we win, we'd still control our destiny. It'd be a matter of needing 1 point or 2.
But we need to beat Philly. A loss to Philly and a Caps win eliminates us. 1 point against Philly and a Caps regulation loss gives us control of our own destiny. Both us and Caps get 1 point and we need to outpoint them on Saturday.

Yep, only one point needed to overcome the tie breaker... thanks. But everything is based on beating the Flyers who don't want us in the playoffs! Ever...
Watched Gragnani vs the Avs a couple of nights ago. MAG is everything we all said he was...... and more!
I still chuckle when our warnings were met with "that's what SJ said about Ehrhoff", despite the fact that Ehrhoff then was still miles ahead of Grags now.
NHL should take a key from English soccer and play 15 games all at the same time on the last day. That really bothers me that the Caps will know what they have to do before they play.
