Malkin vs. Pitkanen is a fairly even matchup, it depends on what you want, and whether or not you think the negatives that affect Pitkanen's trade value compared to Malkin (injuries, closer to free agency) overcome his positives (proven at the NHL level, plays a less deep position, etc.).

Why would this happen at the deadline?

It makes no sense. There is not a chance that Malkin would play in the NHL this year so why would anyone be in a rush to acquire him at the deadline? Makes no sense. Pure BS.

I don't know "what he has". Can anyone remember the last time "what he had" came true? Like I said, when in doubt go with the averages. Wrong (499/500) >>>>>>>>>>>>> Right (1/500)

And it seems to me that you have the greatest avatar in the history of this board . . . from a male perspective at least.

If a team was out of the play-off race, why not make the deal now if you can? The opportunity to land a player like Malkin is extremely rare, and I think that if I was a GM, I'd jump at the chance regardless if Malkin would help me the final 25 games or not.

Considering how thin our defense is I don't think we could afford to do this.

However, I think it's more likely to take that than zednick+souray+perez+1st.

Us montrealers are so giddy at the simple thought of getting a young, franchise forward that we can't help but dream, even if deep down we know it can't happen.

Peace.

And the whole premise is MAYBE missing out on Johnson in the draft. Why count on that happening?
