It should be pretty simple. He can only sign a 3 year ELC per the CBA. The max he can get per year is 900k based on the year in which he was drafted. The max signing bonus he can get is 10%, which comes out of that 900k per year. He will get the max salary and max signing bonus.

The only part that would need to be negotiated is the performance bonuses, and that shouldn't be very hard. RB posted the likely numbers on page 9 of this thread.

Tim Erixon got $850,000 in performance bonuses. He was the 23rd pick in 09. Kreider was #19. Louie LeBlanc taken at #18 got $300,000 in bonuses. David Rundblad at #17 got $600,000 in bonuses. Nick Leddy at #16 got $325,000. Jacob Josefson taken at #20 didn't get any bonus money. Lou doesn't believe in bonus money. John Moore at #21 didn't get the max and just got $125,000 in bonus money. Jordan Schroeder at #22 got $125,000 in bonuses. Zach Kassian at #12 received no bonus money.

The Rangers were facing a tight deadline to get Erixon signed. They didn't do much negotiating with Jay Grossman. $900,000 MAX. $850,000 in performance bonuses. Kreider will probably get the same deal.

You would have to believe the Rangers and Kreider's advisor/agent Matt Keator have discussed the parameters of the SPC.

Kreider is on the Rangers reserve list. They can sign him and use him in the playoffs. The CBA discusses a contract needing to cover the current league year unless its an entry level deal signed between March 1-June 1 which can start the following season or a contract extension. The league year doesn't end on the last day of the regular season. It runs from July 1-June 30. The active roster concludes with the Rangers last NHL game(regular season and playoffs) in the league year. Kreider won't get paid a salary but he will get a signing bonus. What is the difference between Kreider getting $270,000 in April and Brad Richards getting a $10 million signing bonus in July? There are no games being played in July. The CBA doesn't specify when a player can receive a signing bonus. Just during the League year.

Here's 270 thousand dollars, go play NHL hockey for two months and possibly win the Stanley Cup.

How many college students get that job offer?

Um, yes please, I will take that job. Thanks.

The CBA is vague. There isn't a signing deadline for the playoffs. As long as the current counts for then current league year and the active roster concludes after the NYR last playoff game, why wouldn't Kreider be allowed to play?Brooks hasn't written about what Friedman reported.

The Rangers are not facing a Saturday night deadline to sign Chris Kreider in order for the Boston College junior winger to be eligible to play in the NHL playoffs, The Post has confirmed with multiple sources.

According to NHL bylaw 28, players are eligible to play in the playoffs if they are on their respective team’s reserve list as of 3 p.m. the day of the trade deadline.

Kreider, the 19th overall selection in the 2009 Entry Draft, was indeed on the Rangers reserve list as of the Feb. 27 trade deadline and thus would be eligible to play for them once he signs an NHL contract.

Kreider, who turns 21 on April 30, would burn the first year of his mandatory two-year entry-level contract merely by signing while the Rangers remain alive in the playoffs regardless of whether he plays a game

Brooks checked with the Rangers and Bill Daly. Multiple sources.

Well then, since he was on their reserve list, that means they intend to play him. Why put him on the reserve list if he is gonna go to the Whale? They're signing him for the playoff run.

Is there a logistics problem since the NCAA ends the same day as the regular season. I believe the player MUST be signed BEFORE the end of the regular season. Must the Rangers petition for an exception?

Read the article and retract the question. As usual, RB is right on top of the situation

Those would be my lines. Boyle, Prust, and really Fedotenko too have no business getting top-9 minutes on a good playoff team.

Will the top prospect Chris Kreider make his N.H.L. debut for the Rangers in the playoffs?

First, he has one or two important games this week in the Frozen Four in Tampa, Fla. Kreider, the Rangers’ first-round pick in 2009, is expected to sign with the team when he decides to leave Boston College. That could be this weekend, after the Eagles play for the N.C.A.A. championship. Boston College plays Minnesota on Thursday. The title game is Saturday. Kreider is likely to be signed by the Rangers by Monday and practice with them in preparation for the start of the playoffs. Especially with the loss of the creative Mats Zuccarello, who broke his wrist and will be sidelined for another month, the speedy Kreider could get his shot as a third-line forward.

BC arrived in Tampa yesterday afternoon. Practice today. Game on Thursday night.

All draft picks are on the reserve list. If they added another college player in free agency last week, that player can not play for the Rangers in the playoffs because he was not on their reserve list as of the trading deadline. As long as the Rangers are willing to lose a year off the ELC,they can play Kreider in the playoffs. They are allowed to sign him between March 1-June 1 and have the SPC start next season but that's not the plan.

Even if the team has no intent on playing that draft pick?

More than a few eyes in the front office will be on the Frozen Four semifinals Thursday night when Boston College faces Minnesota in Tampa. The Rangers expected to sign Chris Kreider, 20, their first-round pick in 2009, after the Eagles are eliminated or if they win the NCAA title Sunday. The highly touted forward could get a look in the playoffs

If they lose tomorrow, maybe we could get him in on the season closer against Washington.

Didn't Lauri Korpikoski make his NHL debut in the playoffs? It was against Pittsburgh I believe.
