_______ winning the cup would be good/bad for the NHL because...

List a team, and why them winning the cup would be good or bad for the NHL.

This is not suppose to be a fanbase thread, so don't just post teams you support/hate

I'll start.

Phoenix winning the cup would be good for the NHL as it would put to rest the relocation talk and give a much needed boost to the city and it's potential to support hockey.

Assuming that a team winning the cup would be bad for the NHL is a terrible notion.

My team winning the cup would be good for the NHL because they are my team.
All the other teams winning the cup would be bad for the NHL because they are not my team.

The Sharks/Capitals/Canucks winning the Cup would be bad for the NHL because then we all can't laugh at them for choking.

Avoiding our own teams?

I think St. Louis or the Kings winning the Cup would be good for the league.

Two older American franchises around since the 67 expansion, neither has ever won a Cup. i think there's a big latent fanbase in both cases just waiting.

Vancouver winning the cup would... not really matter to the NHL all that much but would be a disaster for HF.

I think there's two answers to the "good for the NHL" question:

-Teams with attendance issues
-Teams in huge media markets (NY, LA, Chicago, etc)

There you go.

How would your example be good for the nhl? What you listed is certainly good for phoenix but how does the league benefit from it?
You could argue it would bring stability to the Yotes and stable teams are distraction free and very good fan attractions

Rangers winning the Cup would probably be good too, just for the size of the market. But the effect would be short-lived. Sports in NYC is so short attention span - within a couple weeks everyone would only be focused on Yankees' pennant race and Jets and Giants training camp. The only way the Rangers could permanently increase their profile in NYC is if they put together a Cup dynasty and won a few inside of 5 years, and that's unlikely.

On the other side, I think of teams like Boston and Detroit. It wouldn't be "bad" for the league, but I don't think it would do a lot of good. Hockey can't really get much more popular in those markets than it already is, and there's not much of a compelling story there for a national audience (both have won Cups recently, neither have a superstar player that the NHL tries to market).

Too many posts had to be deleted from this thread. It is not going in a good direction, and the last thing we need is another flame war among fan bases. Closed.
