SAN ANTONIO (March 13, 2012) - The San Antonio Rampage announced today that the Florida Panthers will face off against the Dallas Stars in a National Hockey League (NHL) preseason matchup on Friday, Sept. 28, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Center.
"This is a great opportunity to showcase the NHL talent from our affiliate the Florida Panthers and from Texas' NHL team, the Dallas Stars," said Spurs Sports and Entertainment President Rick Pych. "Spurs Sports and Entertainment is dedicated to providing the highest caliber sports and entertainment to the San Antonio community and this NHL game will feature some of the best hockey players in the world. For years the Rampage have been developing talented players right here in San Antonio that have gone on to achieve great success in the NHL. This game will exhibit exactly what the Rampage and the American Hockey League is all about, which is seeing the same players who you once saw in San Antonio and other AHL cities now playing at the highest level on teams like the Panthers and Stars."
I love that they're beginning to venture further down there. The game in Austin the first year of the CP Stars obviously went over very well. Then trying, at least, to get a game in Houston last year that fell through. Now this in San Antonio.
Definitely will be making the trip for this one.
Personally, I think they should play one game every pre-season at the Cedar Park Center.
San Antonio IMO makes more sense than Houston. Houston is eventually going to be claimed by another NHL team. I'd rather the Stars continue working on building their brand down I-35.
Because they are owned by Spurs Sports and Entertainment who also own the Spurs, Silver Stars(WNBA), and Toros (NBA Development League).
That kind of answers the question... but one of those things is not exactly like the others. Is it just cross-promotion? Do the teams share staffs? Trying to piggyback on the Spurs' popularity?

There is some cross over in staffing as Spurs Sports and Entertainment operates the AT&T Center and takes cares of things like season tickets, but the main reason is probably to piggyback on the popularity of the Spurs. Also, using the same color scheme for all three San Antonio teams help simplify the decorations/ads at the AT&T Center.
