The Portland Pirates did themselves absolutely no favors, Saturday night, in Manchester, New Hampshire.
In game that likely would have the biggest impact on whether the Pirates would make the playoffs, they laid the big one as the Monarchs scored a pair of shorthanded goals en route to a 5-0 defeat over the Pirates before 9,174 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

Pirates aren’t rewarded for solid effort By Chris Roy Published: 1st April 2012

That’s how the cookie has crumbled for the Portland Pirates this season.
Trevor Frischmon scored with less than a second to play in overtime as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers won their fourth consecutive game with a 4-3 victory against the Pirates at Webster Bank Arena.
Why doesn't Stone and Summers get sent down? They will probably not get any ice time at all with the coyotes.
During the period after the trade deadline and before the playoffs there's a limit on the number of recalls/reassignments with the farm team. Using 1 or 2 (of a maximum of 4 such moves) on sending a D down to the farm would leave us vulnerable if someone got hurt and we needed to bring someone up. Oilers just got caught recently violating this rule and couldn't bring up MPS when Hall got hurt.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock, Tick Tock…
That’s the sound of the time left in the Portland Pirates season if they can’t find a way to stop throwing away important games.
The Pirates were in a prime position to put heat on teams directly in front of them for one of the last remaining playoff spots only to fall completely flat, losing 5-2 to the St. John’s IceCaps before 6,287 at Mile One Arena in St. John’s Newfoundland.
I was at the game last night and I was really surprised at how flat the Pirates played. Mannino and Pogge played ok, but the Pirate defense was asleep at the wheel. The Caps forwards had far too much time in front of the goalie without being cleared.
It seems the players have already written off the playoffs.
Pirates give a better effort against St. John’s By Chris Roy Published: 4th April 2012

Portland Pirates head coach Ray Edwards said he expected a better effort from the team after Tuesday night’s dreadful performance in St. John’s, Newfoundland.
He got it as Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored a goal and added two assists as the Pirates thumped the St. John’s IceCaps, 5-1, in a must-win game before a sold out (6,287) crowd at Mile One Arena, Wednesday, in St. John’s Newfoundland.

Portland, ME – It getting down to crunch time for the Portland Pirates.
With just four games remaining in the regular season, the Pirates still have some control over its own destiny – within reason – as they prepare for the Worcester Sharks, Saturday night, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
Crazy ending of a game, would never thought a team/players would be that uncontrollable to attack a team after the game with everyone on the ice.
after the shootout, players from the sharks attacked the team celebrating around the goalie. turning it into a team vs team brawl, ending up bloodying and hurting some of our players . Then after all the fights got broken up pirates player started throwing shark players gear in the crowd.
Great Game
only video of it so far,( pretty much everything was over before they started rolling )
another video from someones facebook, of the team going off the ice after it.
Pirates grind out victory against Worcester By Chris Roy Published: 8th April 2012

Portland, ME – This was a game the Portland Pirates needed to have in their push to make the Calder Cup playoffs.
The Pirates rebounded for a 5-4 shootout victory over the Worcester Sharks before 5,907 at the Cumberland County Civic Center to pull even with the Manchester Monarchs for eighth place in the AHL’s Eastern Conference.
Seems like a pretty pathetic move by the Wo-Sharks after the game is over. Really starting to dislike the Sharks organization from top to bottom. At least some folks got some free souvenirs afterwards
Thanks for all the updates and write-ups on how the Pirates have been doing this year guys. Greatly appreciated!
