Bitz Recalled from the Wolves

Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that forward Byron Bitz has been recalled from the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

Sounds like Kassian's injury may be worse than originally thought.

Not that worried about Kassian. I think he will be fine. About time we called up Bitz anyway.

In the interview today on Team 1130 Gillis said Bitz's recall would be dependant on the seriousness of Kassian's injury which would be known after Kassian had a MRI earlier today.

Per Ben Kuzma:

10m Ben Kuzma ‏ @benkuzma
@CalmCody An MRI would confirm Kassian's timeline. Canucks saying day-to-day upper body. IMO, could be a rib strain after that shot.

16m Ben Kuzma ‏ @benkuzma
@Mentoch Trainer was checking Kassian's ribs after he ripped shot and left in pain. Wonder if he strained a muscle or if there's a tear.

20m Ben Kuzma ‏ @benkuzma
@ThomasDrance Malhotra needed for defensive-zone faceoffs and PK. Weise needed for sandpaper but grit factor too low. Bitz deserves shot.

24m Ben Kuzma ‏ @benkuzma
Malhotra-Lapierre-Bitz may form #Canucks fourth line for playoffs. Kassian (upper body) out and Weise hasn't done much.

Damn. Kind of puts it into perspective how Kassian is doing. I don't think we'll see him in the PO.

I know its thinking about a billion steps ahead, but say we win the cup and Kassian doesn't play, can't he still be put on the cup?

Well I'd rather bitz destroy himself for the cup considering he's already damaged goods

Anti-anti-anti-anti-jinx.
It is possible by petition.

A player must have at least 41 games played with the club or one game played in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, in 1994 a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to have players' names put on the Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play.

good. i like the 4th line with bitz on it, and he doesn't look bad in short stints with the twins either.

i hope he kicks ass and is a full timer next year. the canucks with both bitz and kassian in the lineup are a lot different than last year's cup finalists.

I'd be happy with that 4th line. Still, Kassian would be nice to have in reserve if teams start looking to run the Sedins or similar.

Kassian may just need some time off to heal up. Could regenerate him as well. We have the depth to fill his spot, so I'm not even one bit worried about who we call up, or put in anymore. Pretty excited to see Bitz again.

I want Bitz in this cup run. Intimidation factor is key.

We need the edge and the physicality he can bring. But we'll see how long his body holds up. You wonder about the mindset of a guy whose career was in jeopardy going into the playoffs with so much pressure on him to play the body. It can't be easy.

It;s expected to be about 2 weeks to recover, could be more if it doesn't respond well, but sounds like that's the expectations.

Bitz proved himself in 5 games, we saved him for the playoffs... UNLEASH THE KRAKEN.

Good to have the big guy back up. As long as we have one of Kassian or Bitz dressed we're fine.

But this is assuming Daniel is good to go. If he's not and Lapierre remains on the first line, then our fourth line imediately looks a lot less competitive.

Or Reinprecht-time already?
