Anybody else getting this from their season ticket rep? According to my rep, negotiations have been ongoing for last 6 months or so and that we'll know "with finality" this summer where the Islanders will be playing for next 30 years. While rep did say he couldn't rule out the team being sold he was hearing rumors of Queens around the office. He didn't sound enthused that Brooklyn was the answer. For the love of Kvasha please let this be true.
On the other hand, how else will they get long suffering season-tix holders to re-up so maybe it's baloney
Whether it's baloney or not, it's unethical. The Sales Rep shouldn't make any claims the organization isn't prepared to make publicly.
Cheers,
Dan-o
Agreed...although what is he supposed to do when the fan he is trying to sell on re-upping his season tickets spend 15 minutes complaining about the worst bottom 3 defense in hockey, Jack Capuano's ties, 30 minute waits for bathrooms that haven't been properly cleaned since the days of Brad Lauer, mesothelioma, Grabner's "Claude Loiselle" hands transplant, the fact that fans were throwing free hot dogs purchased by our once-franchsie goalie at our once-franchise goalie and lastly the fact that getting hit in the head by a bun caused his 13th concussion.

Well if a sales rep said it, it must be true! Hallelujah!
I hear ya but doesn't the fact that we signed up our core long term in last 12 months tell you this is a distinct posssibility (i.e. a fall back plan was in the works if the referendum failed). I understand how restricted free agency works but how could agents allow their clients to get on board a sinking ship without even putting up a fight.
This is most likely a bunch of BS but if true, bring it on. That's what I've been saying all along. Just give us finality on the situation. Either good or bad, it really doesn't matter at this point.
If it's set in stone that they are staying, they just gained a season ticket holder back. I've been indifferent to this team the past two seasons because of the whole not knowing where the team will be in 5 years crap. Indifference sucks. I miss the days where I lived and died with every win/loss.
I wouldn't renew until the summer announcement then...
Yeah, hold it to this reps word.
Would Brooklyn make sense though? The place isn't even a hockey venue, there would be a few thousand obstructed view seats. It's just like when the coyotes used to play in America West Arena, where in one end zone you could only see 2/3 of the surface.

14500 seats would be perfect view and unobstructed. Not including the various suites will ultimately form the backbone of revenue. Which ultimately is what matters.

I'm sure Coyotes' sales reps tell their clients there's a deal in the works as well.
I'll believe it when there's an official announcement...
Except the Coyotes reps can say "we're a playoff team" right now.
Imagine that...A team can get to the playoffs WITHOUT AN OWNER.
You want to keep believing that Wang "saved" this team then you're truly in denial. The only thing he saved the Isles from is success and respectability.
The current lease and cable deal...Those are the things keeping the Isles in New York. Not Wang or any other owner (or even no owner). All Wang has done is acted like a poor man's Dan Snyder and destroy this franchises' perception in the world of sports.

For the past 2 years the City of Glendale are the owners (covering loses of 25 million per year), while the operations is being overseen by the NHL.
Back when Wang bought the team. No one with any $$ stepped up to by the Isles (cue the name dropping of Mr. Empty Pockets with a secret billionaire investor who never stated publicly his interest in buying the Isles).
Whether you like it or not. He saved the team from "possible" relocation.

Haha great observation!! Claude was the original Jason Blake/Michael Grabner stone hands on breakaways from back in the day (the other dark days of the NYI)...
In regards to the OP, I really hope this is true and we're staying in NY for years to come, but unfortunately its one of those I'll believe it when I see it situations...

Yeah. grabner should just watch film of Ray Ferraro from the early 90's. From what I recall, he had Loiselle-esque hands but realized that if you move left to right or vice-versa, the goalie has to open his legs to get across. Don't need to be Mike Bossy to hit that spot one foot away.
As for Brooklyn, rep was downplaying. I really think this is going to be Queens or Nassau "handing" the NVMC to Wang and letting him refurbish

Though this is a nice story told by an Isle's Rep, he probably could indeed get fired for stating info such as this, whether it's true or not. I would report it to his superior, this is truly unethical.

I wouldn't be surprised if reps were given the "go ahead" to talk this up....we'll find out during the summer I guess. Could be this rep was "going rogue"....
Deb Placey: "...and Jack, what makes you an authority on coaching an NHL team having only coached in the AHL?"
Jack Capuano "Well....I can see Gino's pizzera from my house"

I wonder who the other company is: Sterling Equities? They have gotten out of their Madoff suit nicely and have had talks with the Islanders in the past about building an arena.
Also, from the NYCEDC site regarding the Willets point project:
Haha great observation!! Claude was the original Jason Blake/Michael Grabner stone hands on breakaways from back in the day (the other dark days of the NYI)...
You guys are mistaking Claude Loiselle for Claude LaPointe. Claude LaPointe had great speed and managed to get lots of breakaways that he hardly ever scored on. Claude Loiselle played 69 games for the Isles spread out over 3 seasons from 1991-1994 and was more of a 4th line grinder who was often injured rather than a speed demon.

They are definitely talking it up, so I take it all with a grain of salt. Most of the reps are young kids interning or just out of college. I was down in the offices after the game on sunday and the executive who runs sales and who the reps all report to, told me the team is going nowhere. Once again I took it with a grain of salt. I don't think they necessarilly have a hotlline to the war room and like a political campaign will tell us what we want to hear to sell tix.
