On another note, Leafs have clinched 7th (they hold the tie-breaker on both the Lightning and Canes). Which means, the only way to protect from them picking ahead of us with a lottery win would be to lose saturday and get that 2nd spot from Edmonton.
Ah OK.. I was wondering if I had missed something in the SO..

Leafs "win". They lost the season series 7-3 to the Canes.

This is why I hope Edmonton loses 100% tonight. Then we'll have no excuse not going full-auto on the Leafs..

...sadly (luckily?) the Oilers are currently ahead 1-0

edit: and by the time I wrote this ****ing post, the got scored twice against!!!

I am happy with tonigh results (everyone we could have catched up win)

That said, screw the 29th spot. I want a 8-1 win saturday on the hated leafs.

Let's finish this season on a good game.

Getting a better pick is the ultimate victory.

No more cheering for a loss. It is unnatural. I've been cheering for this team for forty years, these last twenty games hoping to tank have been torture. I don't know how Oilers fans do this year after year.

I'm paranoid the Laffs and Oil will swap picks + a player for Edm's pick and sneak in ahead of us. Totally paranoid.

I know Leafs are maybe too far away for Edm to risk that but still...totally paranoid of that scenario playing out.

I will cheer for a win vs the leafs now that we have the top 3 locked (top 4 if we lose the lottery). However, I will not mind if we lose to make the Leafs pick worst.

What assets do the Leafs have to do that? The only way I can see that happen is if the Leafs give up Gardiner, and that just gives the Leafs more problems.

This draft isn't good enough for a team to shoot themselves in the foot like that.

Brian Burke will never come close to dealing with Kevin Lowe (even if he is President, not GM) so I'm not concerned about that.

Somehow i can see Edm taking on Schenn, a depth forward and the draft choice (choosing another d-man) for their pick. Paranoia, I know...

Assuming the Leafs don't win the lottery this season (which would be very unlikely), Montreal has either made the playoffs when the Leafs hadn't or secured a better draft position than Toronto every season since the lockout.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see Burke try and trade up for the 1st or 2nd pick if the Oilers get it.. After this fail season for him anything is possible since he must be feeling some serious pressure right now.

Even this freaks me out in an Orlando Magic-kind of way.

Though that was clearly rigged and Bettman could care less about the Leafs.

Means we can still end up 29th if we lose in regulation and Edmonton wins Saturday, ... not so fast.

If we move up to #2 I would trade our first with TO for Schenn and their first in a heart beat. The kid has 300 games under his belt and he's not 23 yet. I'd consider it even if we had to pick fifth. Compare him to our not quite 23 year old on our roster and imagine them playing for the next 10 years. Nevermind his deficiencies, coaching and playing with guys like Markov and Gorges will fix that.

That has to mean that he got directives from Molson to tank, he can't be that dumb to use Gorges in a shootout right? That and going with Plekanec instead of Subban on the PP...

And yes you raise a very good point lastly. I am very, very torn about the issue. To lose would mean my pride as a Habs fan would take a hit even though I am not at the game, yet I'll have the satisfaction of seeing a bunch of Leafs fans cry on the internet over their win. On the flipside, I would very much enjoy us beating the snot out of them and end the season on a positive note. Pacioretty hat trick please?

The Habs play their game earlier. They lose to the Leafs. You wait around for the Oiler game. The Canucks score two fast goals and then run up the score. How's that for a pleasant evening? Better you should get plastered at 6 p.m. and wake up the next day to find out what happened. It wouldn't be as painful as gluing your eyes to the TV for a six-hour period, seeing #29 disappear, and feeling as though you were undergoing surgery without anesthesia .
